Yankees at Indians AL Division Series Predictions 2017
2017 American League Division Series Betting
After winning the AL Wildcard game 8-4, the New York Yankees and all their youth get a date with the Cleveland Indians in the ALCS. Cleveland finished with the best record in the American League (102-60 SU) and enter the postseason as the clear favorites to make it out of the AL playoffs. Getting back to the World Series and erasing the memory of last year’s blown 3-1 series lead to the Cubs has been on Cleveland’s mind all year long, and they are loaded from top to bottom in 2017.
2017 ALDS Betting Odds – To Win Series
New York Yankees (+140) vs. Cleveland Indians (-160) – Odds taken from Bet365
There is no question that Cleveland is a popular pick to get back to the World Series this year as it’s hard to find a weakness in theri team. They’ve arguably got the best pitching staff – starters and relievers – in the entire playoffs, their lineup is built with the right mix of speed, power, and contact guys, and they have plenty of postseason experience after last year’s run.
Those are usually the best ingredients for a long playoff run for any team during October baseball, but the one thing Cleveland might have going against them is the weight of expectations and pressure. There is no such thing as a lock, and with everyone expecting them to get back to the World Series and get redemption, it will be interesting to see how they react to those expectations.
New York was excited to get through the Wildcard game with their new young core, and all of those emerging superstars they’ve got will be experiencing a whole new level of pressure in the ALDS. The Yankees might not have the pitching that the Indians do from a starting rotation perspective, but their bullpen is downright nasty, and they had a phenomenal record when leading after 5 innings. Give these Baby Bronx Bombers a lead and their veteran bullpen is more than capable of shutting things down.
Yet, youth and a lack of postseason experience will be the first knock everyone points to when talking about this series, that and the fact that they are up against a juggernaut in the Indians. The Yankees can’t expect to slug their way through this series given the pitchers they’ll be up against, and the Indians ballpark isn’t exactly homer-friendly either. Should the Yankees find themselves constantly playing from behind, it’s not going to end well for them.
Who’s Got The Edge Overall?
There is no question that the Indians have a decided edge in about everything but power hitters, and for those reasons it’s tough not to like Cleveland to advance. The Indians also won the season series with the Yankees by a 5-2 margin, so knowing they can beat this team is a huge mental edge in favour of Cleveland right from the get-go. Cleveland also swept the three-game set they played in Yankee Stadium this summer, so there will be little fear about going into hostile territory.2017 ALDS Betting Pick: New York Yankees (+140)
Despite everything seemingly being in favor of Cleveland in this series, and the redemption narrative being one that will pull on the heartstrings of many, I’ve got no problem taking a shot with the upstart Yankees in this series. New York’s ability to hit the longball should keep them in every game at worst, and give them a lead late and their bullpen is too good to take lightly.
Furthermore, the youth and inexperience that many will view as a negative for New York in this series could actually turn out to be a huge positive. These Yankees know they’ve got bright futures ahead of them and sometimes not fully knowing the enormity of the moment keeps guys loose and relaxed. This Yankees team has to already feel like they are playing with house money, and knowing the books will have plenty of liability on Cleveland here, I’m taking a shot with the dog as anything can happen in five games.
