Canada WC 2022 Qualifiers Update: Canada in For Tough Test Against Suriname

Canada WC 2022 Qualifiers Update: Canada in For Tough Test Against Suriname

Team Canada continues its 2022 FIFA World Cup CONCACAF qualifiers. The team will restore most of its players from two months prior but also lose a few but gain reinforcements as well. They will need all hands on deck as they face their toughest test in Suriname, who they cannot lose to.

Team Canada returns as it continues its play in the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. So far, Canada has held steady as the favourite out of Group B by making short work of the Cayman Islands and Bermuda. The party should continue against Aruba, but things can get hairy against Suriname.

Canada has returned several key players, lost some and will get reinforcements. Overall, the team is looking like a contender in these qualifiers and should be able to make it all the way to the Final Round of Eight Nations where the real games will begin.

The online sportsbooks have yet to budge regarding the FIFA World Cup odds for Canada. Here is how they look beside their CONCACAF rivals:

How Canada’s 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers Has Looked So Far

Team Canada has gotten off to a great start at the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers with big victories over the Cayman Islands and Bermuda. Canada has won by a total of 15 goals and that comes as little surprise as the favourites of Group B.

Lucas Cavallini and Cyle Larin both had hat tricks against the overmatched opponents as Canada dominated by grabbing over three-quarters of the possession. The poor Cayman Islands couldn’t even manage a shot on goal as Canada looked like a world-beater.

But the task gets harder now and John Herdman recruited more players to help complete finish the group stage strong. Milan Borjan will be a stalwart in goal after a strong season in Serbia. Sam Adukegbe will join the defence along with Frank Sturing and Doniel Henry, who is recovering from an injury.

In the middle, Canada will miss the services of Scott Arfield and Atiba Hutchinson but will have Stephen Eustaquiao who is coming off a phenomenal year with Portugal’s Pacos. Jonathan Osorio of Toronto FC fame returns and Herdman has alluded that he is a potential captain.

And finally up in front, Canada will have Jonathan David who was held out last time due to COVID restrictions. Joining him are Cavallini and Larin and superstar Alphonso Davies, of course. Keep an eye out for Theo Corbeanu as well as the upstart could electrify when he’s on the field.

Canada vs Aruba

Canada (2-0-0) continues its bid for the FIFA World Cup with its third group match against Aruba, which is ranked 205th in the world. Aruba (1-0-2) is coming off a 3-1 win against the Cayman Islands. Before that, they were trounced by Bermuda and Suriname by a combined 11 goals. They didn’t score at all.

Expect Canada to be a sizable betting favourite here. This will be the first time these two teams meet although Canada has a 7-4-0 record against the two teams that beat Aruba. The underdogs have a -9 goal differential and only the Cayman Islands have it worse.

In fact, Aruba has only scored against the Cayman Islands. They will be hard-pressed to score against Canada or even stop their attack as this one should be another blowout for Canada.

Canada vs Suriname

This one is for all the marbles. Suriname (2-0-0), like Canada, is undefeated in the group and will likely demolish Bermuda a day before Canada faces Aruba. Canada will need to beat Suriname here or at least tie them assuming they still have a better goal differential.

Canada has a +15 goal differential while Suriname has +9. However, Suriname has not allowed a goal and has looked like a solid defensive squad in comparison to Canada. These two clubs have only met once previously, which Canada won 2-1.

Expect Canada to be a slight favourite here as they should still pull this one out provided they stay aggressive and play to win.

How The Top Five Teams Look: CONCACAF Nations League

Four of the five teams that have automatically advanced to the Final Round of Eight Nations will be in action today in the CONCACAF Nations League. Honduras will take on the USA while Mexico will face Costa Rica.

The USA is favoured to win like they’ll be a favourite to grab a Top-3 finish in the qualifiers similar with Mexico.

Canada then will have to finish ahead of five other teams: Jamaica, Costa Rica, and Honduras from automatic bids plus the other two winners of the play-ins, which will likely be El Salvador and the Dominican Republic.

This is assuming Canada gets this far. Beating the finalists will be a tough ask as Canada has a losing record against the elites like the USA (10-11-15), Mexico (3-7-19), and Costa Rica (5-9-7). The swing games are the ones against Jamaica (9-6-6), Honduras (7-6-11), and El Salvador (8-4-5).

Expect there to be betting lines as the CONCACAF World Cup qualifiers get deeper and more high-profile matches like Canada vs USA or Canada vs Mexico to happen. Canada will be a lively underdog here. Find these odds and more international soccer betting odds from the top sportsbooks.
