Washington vs San Francisco: MLB 2014 NLDS Championship Rematch

Washington vs San Francisco: MLB 2014 NLDS Championship Rematch

San Francisco: Defending World Series Champs are struggling

August has not been kind to San Francisco as they look to defend their 2014 World Series title. The Giants have stumble to a 4-7 record this month and they have fallen 3.5 games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West standings. The Champs are also five games out of the NL Wild Card race – though they are 2.5 games ahead of the Nationals in that chase. Contests involving the Giants have been all over the map as seven of them have averaged twelve runs per game while four have averaged just 2.7 runs per game. Don't outright dismiss the Champions moving forward.

Washington Nationals: Aim to recover from a pair of Kershaw and Greinke gashings

Following a pair of shutout losses to the Los Angeles Dodgers, Washington heads to Northern California for a crucial four-game series with the Giants. The Nationals were blanked 5-0 by Zack Greinke and 3-0 by Clayton Kershaw over the past two days. When Washington last visited the SF Bay Area, their 2014 season came to end as the Giants won Game 4 of the National League Division Series by a 3-2 count on October 7. The Nationals have gained a measure of revenge since then though as they swept the Giants during a three-game series in the District back in July.

Nationals vs Giants MLB Prediction: RHP Stephen Strasburg (6-5 ERA 4.76) will duel RHP Ryan Vogelsong (7-8 ERA 4.26) in the matchup on the mound tonight. Following a month on the disabled list with an oblique injury, Strasburg was sharp as he allowed one run on three hits over seven innings during a 6-1 win over Colorado last Saturday. With newly acquired RHP Mike Leake (hamstring) on the shelf, Volgelsong makes a rare start after he was banished to bullpen following the All-Star break. Giving the Nationals a slight edge in hitting and pitching, to offset the Giants homefield advantage, wager on Washington with 500 units on the money line odds posted on the betting board at SportsInteraction.
