UFC 271 Best Betting Picks: Double Down on The Champ

UFC 271 Best Betting Picks: Double Down on The Champ

Israel Adesanya made it look easy when he finished Robert Whittaker back in 2019. With several fights under their belt since this one, the most recent sports betting odds lean on a similar result: utter domination from the middleweight king.

But before the pair duke it out, UFC 271 features a bevy of action-packed fights with at least a pair likely to produce a knockout.

UFC 271 Picks & Predictions

Our UFC 270 best betting picks did not fair too well, going 1-2. We hit big on Francis Ngannou to retain his title but lost the remaining fights. We're back at it for UFC 271 as we put together a three-leg parlay plus an underdog bet. Together, we could profit over 5.5 units if all four of our picks go our way.

UFC Middleweight Championship: Israel Adesanya (1.38) vs Robert Whittaker (3.20)

The last time Israel Adesanya fought Robert Whittaker, he put on one of MMA's greatest performances. He dusted the once-proud champion in just two rounds. Since that fight, Adesanya (21-1-0) has shown improved grappling. On the other hand, Whittaker (23-5-0) has also grown as a fighter. He put on a clinic against Kelvin Gastelum.

Whittaker fought Adesanya at a time when he was coming off multiple injuries. He fought uncharacteristically reckless and got finished. The former champ has since shown a more patient and technical approach as he will have to utilize his whole toolbox, including his wrestling, to whittle down Adesanya.

SBR’s pick — Israel Adesanya (1.38). We like Whittaker and in any other generation, he would be the king. But unfortunately, he was born in Adesanya's era. The "Last Stylebender" has the reach, speed, and style advantage. But instead of a finish, a decision is most likely so bet the 'over' when it opens.

Middleweight: Jared Cannonier (1.48) vs Derek Brunson (2.75)

Jared Cannonier meets Derek Brunson in a fight that gets the winner the next title shot. Cannonier (14-5-0) lost to Whittaker in a hard-fought contest, which is the only blemish in his middleweight career while Brunson (23-7-0) has won five straight after losing to Adesanya in 2018.

Between Cannonier and Brunson, we have two of the hardest-hitting middleweights. However, Brunson is a bit quicker and has a significant wrestling edge. He has shown a bit more patience and maturity in his recent run, which has been his weakness earlier in his career. A composed Brunson is a top-tier opponent.

SBR’s pick — Derek Brunson (2.75). If Brunson sticks to mixing it up and outwrestling Cannonier, he can edge him on the scorecards. Cannonier's best weapons are his leg kicks, which will not only cut Brunson's explosiveness but possibly finish him. It's worth taking a shot that Brunson can edge this one.

Heavyweight: Derrick Lewis (1.52) vs Tai Tuivasa (2.65)

Speaking of hard-hitters, look no further than big boys in Derrick Lewis and Tai Tuivasa. Lewis (26-8-0, 1 NC) has the most knockouts in the UFC while Tuivasa (13-3-0) has four straight KOs. Whoever the first to land a clean one could finish the fight, so don't blink.

SBR’s pick — Derrick Lewis (1.52). Tuivasa has a good "puncher's chance" here. But he has constantly fallen short against the top fighters of the division. Meanwhile, Lewis has only lost to champions in the past four years. "The Black Beast" rolls!

Bantamweight: Kyler Phillips (1.32) vs Marcelo Rojo (3.60)

Even after an upset defeat, Kyler Phillips remains one of the division's most promising prospects. The UFC is treating him like such by giving him a "softball" matchup in Marcelo Rojo. The Argentinian is coming off a knockout loss and has shown to be hittable and beatable. Phillips (9-2-0) can't afford another loss and will be better prepped for this one.

SBR’s pick — Kyler Phillips (1.32). Phillips is dynamic and well-rounded and while Rojo (16-7-0) is the same, he's a level below the American. In what should be a fun scrap, back Phillips to finish Rojo in a potential Fight of the Night.

Parlay: Israel Adesanya (1.38), Derrick Lewis (1.52), and Kyler Phillips (1.32) at 2.76
