UFC 266 Best Betting Picks: Banking On Some Epic Returns

UFC 266 Best Betting Picks: Banking On Some Epic Returns

Fingers crossed we finally see Alexander Volkanovski (22-1-0) and Brian Ortega (15-1-0, 1 NC) go down for UFC 266 on September 25 from Paradise, Nevada. The pairing got scrapped from UFC 260 and after filming The Ultimate Fighter, the pair are back at it. The odds have not changed at all as Volkanovski remains a favourite as "T-City" looks to cash as a dog.

The pair main event a stacked UFC 266, which also features another title fight with women's flyweight queen Valentina Shevchenko (21-3-0) defending her crown against "Lucky" Lauren Murphy (15-4-0) while former welterweight champion "Ruthless" Robbie Lawler (28-15-0, 1 NC) welcomes back the legend himself, Nick Diaz (26-9-0, 2 NC).

Four of the main fights already have betting odds up, per William Hill:

    UFC 266 Picks & Predictions

The Nunes-Pena fight got canned from UFC 265, but our two-leg parlay cashed as both Ciryl Gane and Jose Aldo won. We're back at it with another parlay for UFC 266 plus an underdog bet from a returning legend:

UFC Featherweight Championship: Alexander Volkanovski (1.56) vs Brian Ortega (2.55)

Volkanovski gets his first title defence, post-Max Holloway. The featherweight champion survived Holloway but now faces a multi-faceted threat in Ortega. The American has shown tremendous improvements to his overall MMA game, especially with his striking.

However, Ortega's best path to victory here is to submit Volkanovski as he will lose the striking exchange. Volkanovski has some eye-popping striking stats: 6.02 significant strikes landed per minute (SLpM) versus just 3.31 significant strikes absorbed per minute (SApM).

What makes that more impressive is that he fought Holloway twice. But this Aussie has arguably the best striking in the UFC as he's able to light up his opponents and not take damage back. Ortega may have improved in this area, but he's still behind the champ.

SBR’s pick — Volkanovski (1.56). Ortega is the ultimate good guy in the sport and winning a title would be a fairy tale. But Volkanovski beat Holloway twice and has only gotten stronger just like Ortega. He should be able to outstrike the challenger en route to a clear-cut decision.

Tip: Books like Betonline and SportsBetting offer plenty of quality promotions you can use for betting UFC and MMA.

UFC Women's Flyweight Championship: Valentina Shevchenko (1.13) vs Lauren Murphy (6.50)

As Nunes squashes all the "contenders" up in 135 and 145, Shevchenko empties the 125 division.

This time, Murphy gets the shot after winning five straight fights. But to cut to the chase: Shevchenko should comfortably beat Murphy here unless she gets injured or slips on the canvas and knocks herself out. That would give a new meaning to Murphy's moniker.

Shevchenko has not lost since her rematch against Nunes back in 2017 and in fact, she has only lost two rounds in the last four years. And yet Shevchenko stays hungry and humble hence why she stays on top.

SBR’s pick — Shevchenko (1.13). Don't overthink this one. Shevchenko should handle Murphy for five rounds despite the American being tougher than a two-dollar steak. Find a prop for Shevchenko to win by decision to get more value on your bet or parlay her with Volkanovski at 1.75.

Welterweight: Nick Diaz (2.05) vs Robbie Lawler (1.80)

The man, the myth, the legend Nick Diaz has returned! It's been a while (six years) since he last graced the octagon. Rematching Lawler is a fight 17 years in the making as Diaz handed Lawler his first legitimate MMA loss back in 2004. Both are significantly older now but Diaz still holds an edge here.

The betting lines reflect Diaz's long layoff as he could be rusty. But Lawler himself has not looked good and is shopworn. On the flipside, Diaz has had a long rest and will be in much better condition. It's a shame as this fight is not five rounds as Diaz would be the favourite. Still, he has the betting value as an underdog.

SBR’s pick — Diaz (2.05). Diaz's main enemy here is himself. He has a tendency to taunt and fool around. But even if he gives away a round to Lawler, he is still the better counter-striker and has a reach advantage. Lawler may win the first round but Diaz will take over and win the next two.

William Hill will have the entire UFC 266 fight card available on the betting lines as will these top online sportsbooks. Check several to find the best betting lines and to avail of a cash bonus for your first deposit.
