UFC 262 Best Betting Picks: A New Lightweight King Emerges!

UFC 262 Best Betting Picks: A New Lightweight King Emerges!

UFC 262 will crown a new lightweight champion as former Bellator champion Michael Chandler meets the UFC’s all-time submissions and performance bonuses leader, Charles Oliveira. Let’s keep the hot streak going with the UFC 262 betting picks as the fights start Saturday, May 15.

UFC 262 has a lot to live up to both from an entertainment and betting standpoint as UFC 261 was a barn burner and a smashing success from the betting standpoint. Hats off to everyone who cashed out big on Rose Namajunas! Our UFC 262 betting picks will look to follow the success.

This time around, we expect big finishes as lightweights Michael Chandler and Charles Oliveira meet for the vacant belt plus former interim champ Tony Ferguson returns against Beneil Dariush. The betting odds (via SportsInteraction (SIA) are closer than UFC 261, but expect plenty of action:

UFC 262 Picks & Predictions

After going 0-2 on our UFC 260 picks, we cashed in big yet again with a clean 3-0 sweep with our UFC 261 best betting picks. We’ve been on a roll lately although this new PPV has some tricky waters to navigate. We can’t promise another perfect night, but we can promise that we will be bold with our picks:

Lightweight Championship: Charles Oliveira (1.80) vs Michael Chandler (1.95)

It’s been a long road for both “Do Bronx” Oliveira and Chandler. The former has been a longtime UFC veteran who’s fought in both featherweight and lightweight and the other is a former multiple-time Bellator champion.

This is a battle between a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu grappler in Oliveira and an NCAA Division I wrestler in Chandler. Yet both guys have found a penchant for striking. But if it does stay on its feet, Chandler has a sizable advantage thanks to his explosiveness and power.

Oliveira was once a sitting duck on his feet. Yet he’s improved his striking and found the mental toughness to absorb punches. But he’s still susceptible to body shots, doesn’t have much head movement, and has the perfect height for Chandler’s overhand.

But if this goes to the ground, Oliveira will likely submit Chandler. He is the best submissions artist in the entire division. The question is if he can get Chandler to the mat.

SBR’s pick — Chandler (1.95). The pick’em odds are justified as this is either Oliveira by submission or Chandler by knockout. But we like Chandler to keep this fight standing and to land that knockout punch to become the new UFC lightweight champion.

Lightweight: Tony Ferguson (2.25) vs Beneil Dariush (1.63)

From the lightweight championship to a lightweight contender’s match. It’s plausible that either fighter here steps in if either Oliveira or Chandler falls out of the main event. As far as this fight goes, the book is out on Ferguson at this point: wrestle him. And Dariush is one of the division’s best grapplers.

Ferguson will continue to be dangerous wherever the fight goes. He’s notoriously lethal off his back and is unpredictable on his feet. But barring a flying knee or spinning elbow, Dariush should be able to get him to the ground and control him with his chain wrestling.

SBR’s pick — Dariush (1.63). Betting Dariush here will be a sweaty endeavor as Ferguson will constantly threaten. But Dariush is a proficient BJJ specialist and will be able to fend off Ferguson as he earns the biggest win of his UFC career.

Middleweight: Jack Hermansson (1.59) vs Edmen Shahbazyan (2.30)

Hermansson and Shahbazyan are both looking to rebound following two losses in a fight that could end quickly. Both fighters are finishers. Seventeen of Hermansson’s 21 wins were finishes while Shahbazyan has only gone to a decision once.

Shahbazyan is notorious for rushing into his opponents and getting them out early. If he fails to do that, he can exhaust himself and lose. Hermansson could weather the storm and finish Shahbazyan later. But that’s if he can survive the 23-year-old’s onslaught.

SBR’s pick — Shahbazyan (2.30). It’s difficult to finish ranked UFC opponents and even more difficult to do it within one round. But Hermansson is hittable and as seen in his loss to Cannonier, a few well-placed shots will do him in. Shahbazyan will find a bead on the herky-jerky Hermansson and put him away.
