UFC 249 Betting Picks – Ferguson vs. Gaethje
Check out the most valuable bets you can make on the UFC 249.
UFC 249 promises to be one of the biggest events on the 2020 calendar with a couple of title fights on the card. Tony Ferguson and Justin Gaethje will clash for the lightweight belt, while Henry Cejudo will defend his bantamweight belt against former champ Dominick Cruz. One of the biggest favourites of the night will be Francis Ngannou, who plans to cement his rise in the heavyweight division with a KO over Jairzinho Rozenstruik. Let’s have a look at the best picks for the available UFC 249 Odds.
UFC 249 Pick of the Night
This is the best pick according to my expertise.
Tony Ferguson Defeats Justin Gaethje In Round 2 – +600
Both Justin Gaethje and Tony Ferguson can call themselves former champions in the lightweight division of major mixed-martial art competitions. However, there will be a massive gulf in terms of experience in the UFC octagon, one that will favour Ferguson heavily. This makes Tony the best pick of the night due to the relatively solid value that his odds provide on most sports betting sites.
Tony was initially preparing to clash with Khabib Nurmagomedov, one of the most successful UFC combatants over the past decade. With all due respect to Justin, Khabib was a far more serious threat to Ferguson. This doesn’t mean that Tony will take his opponent lightly.
Justin will face an uphill battle against one of the most experienced pro fighters in the octagon. A +600 payout for this prop bet is solid for a second-round stoppage after Tony measures Justin up in the first round.

UFC 249 Odds and Predictions
Let’s have a look at other picks for the UFC 249 fight night.
Tony Ferguson -188 vs Justin Gaethje +150
Lightweight Title Bout
Tony hasn’t lost a bout since 2012 when he dropped a decision against Michael Johnson. He’s never been knocked out either, losing twice on points and once due to submission. A matchup with Khabib was tantalizing for fans because Nurmagomedov has never lost an official MMA match.
Gaethje, also known as “The Highlight”, was thrilled when he was called upon to replace Khabib at UFC 249. Justin had a bit of difficulty adjusting to the UFC at the beginning with a couple of losses, but he’s rebounded with three consecutive spectacular Kos, including two performances of the night nods and a fight of the night award against Edson Barboza. At the beginning of his career, he focused on wrestling but decided to become a bomb-thrower as he progressed into a professional fighting career.
Ferguson never gets knocked out, while all of Gaethje’s fights have ended in a KO since 2015. Justin’s clearly an incredibly talented fighter, but his style requires risk-taking while Ferguson’s shown the ability to approach without risking his neck. Most notably, Tony will enter the octagon with a massive, 6.5-inch reach advantage – a significant differentiator between the two fighters.
Will Tony versus Justin result in a fight of the night? The contrasting style between a cagey, well-rounded veteran and the younger bomb-throwing upstart is almost certainly going to result in sparks. Tony’s defence is unlikely to falter, so expect him to grasp the lightweight title.
Pick – Tony Ferguson -188
Henry Cejudo -225 vs Dominick Cruz +175
Bantamweight Title Bout
The second title bout on this massive UFC 249 card features an excellent candidate for an odds upset. Dominick Cruz dropped his bantamweight title in a disappointing decision loss against Cody Garbrandt. He needed to take a break due to injuries, abstaining from action for the past few years. When the opportunity arose to replace Jose Aldo for this title fight, he jumped at the opportunity.
Certainly, not fighting for a few years isn’t ideal, but a combatant as talented and experienced as Cruz has a much better chance to win than his +175 odds suggest. Cejudo deserves the label of favourite – after all, he’s been the UFC Flyweight Champ and he won the vacant Bantamweight Championship with a KO over Marlon Moraes. However, Cruz is much more experienced at this weight class, which may translate to an advantage in terms of power.
Dominick has a long history of competing at a high level after being forced to take time off due to injuries. This pattern, and Cruz’s history of performing well at the top level of the sport, makes him a worthwhile risk at +175.
Pick – Dominick Cruz +175

Francis Ngannou -300 vs Jairzinho Rozenstruik +225
Francis enters the octagon as a massive favourite to pick up his fourth consecutive knockout win against Jairzinho. Ngannou’s jumped up the ranks of heavyweight fighters over the past couple of years with outstanding victories against strong opponents like Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos. In fact, Francis has ended his last three fights in an average of 47.3 seconds.
Rozenstruik hasn’t lost a fight in his career, but he’ll be dealing with a considerable reach disadvantage – about five inches. Jairzinho also hasn’t shown the devastating power and speed that has elevated Francis over the past few years. If you’re looking to boost the value of a bet through a parley, adding a Ngannou victory to your card represents a low-risk method.
Pick – Francis Ngannou -300
