With New York winning their matinee match versus the Minnesota Twins today, Toronto (66-54) has dropped 1.5 games behind the Yankees in the AL East. The Blue Jays can chop a half game off that lead with win over the fumbling Phillies. Toronto registered a five run sixth inning as they came back from a 5-3 deficit to post an 8-5 win in the series opener. Leading AL MVP candidate Josh Donaldson continues to amaze as he clubbed a pair of homeruns in the Jays win last night.

Philadelphia Phillies: Fighting for the triple crown of Major League Baseball futility

It’s not difficult to understand why Philadelphia one of the worst team in the Majors. The Phillies are second last in runs scored (438) and runs allowed (594) and their .982 fielding percentage is fourth worst. When you own a 46-73 record, and sit 18 games out of first place in your division, it’s tough to get motivated during the dog days of August.
