Toronto vs Boston: Blue Jays Soar Closer to the AL East Title

Toronto Blue Jays: Padding their AL East over the Yankees

Thanks to their 6-1 ripping of the Red Sox last night, plus the Mets 5-1 victory over the Yankees, Toronto has opened a 4.5 game lead on New York in the race for first in the AL East. After falling eight games out of first, and a game below .500 back on July 28, the Blue Jays are on a torrid run as they are 35-11 over their last 46 games. In addition to building a gap on the Yankees, Toronto is also within one game of Kansas City for first overall in the American League. That’s an important race as the Blue Jays 48-25 home record is the fourth best mark in the Majors this season.

Boston Red Sox: American League preseason favorites have crashed and burned

Posted as top preseason chalk to represent the American League in the 2015 MLB World Series, Boston has endured a miserable season. Back in March we mentioned that the Red Sox would need to win at least 25 more games than they did in 2014 to live up to their lofty expectations. While they'll surpass their 71-91 record from a year ago, Boston is currently 69-77 and one loss away from playoff elimination as they are 15.5 games behind Toronto. Pitching has been a major flaw in BeanTown this season as Boston is sporting a 4.41 team ERA that ranks 26th overall in the Majors.

Blue Jays vs Red Sox MLB Prediction: Part of the pitching problem in Boston takes to the hill here as LHP Wade Miley (11-10 ERA 4.41) faces RHP R.A. Dickey (10-11 ERA 4.08) in mound matchup today. Miley has allowed eight runs over eleven innings during his two starts against Toronto this season. Dickey has allowed 18 runs over 31 innings during his five starts against Boston. Expecting that the Rogers Centre scoreboard operator will be busy today, we are backing the OVER with a 300 unit wager on the eight run Alternate Over/Under price posted on the MLB betting board at SportsInteraction.
