After a stunning Week 1, the NFL’s Super Bowl odds are moving. We look at which contenders have fallen and which have risen just ahead of Week 2, which we also pick three quality games from to break down.
Lopez vs Kambosos Betting Picks: Can Kambosos Upset Lopez?
Newly minted lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez can further elevate his rapidly rising stock with a big win over mandatory challenger George Kambosos Jr. Lopez will be a massive betting favourite here but does the challenger have what it takes to defy the odds?
Boxing’s fastest ring star, Teofimo Lopez (16-0-0, 12 KOs) returns to defend his lightweight belts against a fellow unbeaten: Australia’s George Kambosos Jr. (19-0-0, 10 KOs). The pairing’s originally scheduled bout was delayed and will now take place on August 14, 2021, via Triller Fight Club.
As expected, Lopez will be a massive betting favourite at 1.10 per Bet365. The comeback on Kambosos is 6.50. The round totals and prop bets could be offered closer to the date of the fight.

Lopez vs Kambosos Fight Card
- Lightweight: Teofimo Lopez vs George Kambosos Jr.
- Super middleweight: Franchon Crews-Dezurn vs Elin Cederroos
- Super-featherweight: Andy Vences vs Jono Carroll
- Heavyweight: Michael Hunter vs Mike Wilson
Before Lopez and Kambosos step in the ring, there will be three undercard fights. A serious women’s bout is the co-main event as Crews-Dezurn (7-2-0, 1NC, 2 KOs) and Cederroos (8-4-0, 4 KOs) will lock horns to unify the women’s super-middleweight titles. Vences (23-2-1, 12 KOs) will look to bounce back as he faces Irish southpaw Carroll (19-2-1, 5 KOs). And a pair of former U.S. National Champions square off as Hunter (19-1-1, 13 KOs) takes on Mike Wilson (21-1-0, 10 KOs). Odds could be offered later.
For now, let’s break down the Lopez vs Kambosos championship match:
Teofimo Lopez (1.10) vs George Kambosos Jr. (6.50)
Lopez’s new opponent, Kambosos, is a relative unknown outside the boxing hardcore and there is considerable hype on Lopez after he upset Vasyl Lomachenko. But the line here should be closer and it shouldn’t be a shocker if Kambosos can make this a close fight.
Kambosos’s biggest weapons are his mouth and his fast hands. He was already mouthing off at Lopez and appeared to be successful in irritating the champion. This is a strategy he said he will keep using during the fight. It should work well with his counter-punching approach.
The Australian can hit fast and hit hard and although only half of his wins have come via knockout, he can hurt Lopez if he catches him. Lopez cannot get too aggressive in this fight although even if he does, he has the “bigger guns” so to speak.
Lopez proved in his win over Lomachenko that not only is he a finisher, he’s also got the endurance to go well beyond the championship rounds. However, if he fights angry and throws a bit more “oomph” in his punches looking to knock out Kambosos, he may wear himself down.
Kambosos should also target Lopez’s body and sap his energy as much as he can. While he also has the speed and endurance to keep up with Lopez, he won’t beat him if he tries to “swang and bang” with him. A drained Lopez will lose his power advantage and Kambosos will be able to edge him out down the road.
But it may not even get there, especially if Kambosos continues to play with fire. For one, he also lacks head movement and doesn’t utilize the jab that much. He can also be too inactive and may get carried away taunting Lopez as opposed to boxing him.
Overall, Lopez is still the better and more proven boxer. He may be rusty as he hasn’t fought in nearly a year and may have been slowed down a bit by his bout with COVID.
SBR’s pick — Lopez (1.10). Kambosos offers some value as a sizable favourite, but it will still be a losing bet as Lopez should be able to deal with him by being the more active boxer. There is also a good chance he knocks him out given his power and Kambosos’s hittability.

Lopez vs Kambosos: Bonus Prop Pick
Only the sides are out for now, but when the props open, taking Lopez to win inside the distance is a solid prop. Kambosos will goad Lopez all the way to the bitter end. While he hasn’t tasted defeat much less a knockout, he also has not fought a fighting machine like Lopez.
Not only can Lopez end him with one punch, but it may be more of a death by a thousand cuts. Lopez will be able to do significant damage to Kambosos through the course of the fight and one punch will be the straw that breaks the camel’s back.
SBR’s pick — Lopez wins by T/KO. Snipe Lopez to win by T/KO which should be a better bet than taking him straight-up. Another option is to bet on the under when the total rounds are released. If you can find one at under 8.5, take it.
Lopez versus Kambosos is just one of many epic bouts scheduled for August. UFC 265 is just a week prior to this fight while Errol Spence Jr. and Manny Pacquiao will face each other a week later. You can find all these fights’ betting odds from the top online sportsbooks.
