USA and Russia are the lead contenders in Group A
Priming for what's sure to be an epic USA vs Russia tilt on February 15th, Team Russia opens their Olympic tourney with a match vs. Slovenia while Team USA primes against a "dark-horse" Slovakia squad. Since any loss can be fatal to a medal chance, and being as goals count in tie-breakers, don't expect the NHL stacked Americans or the Big Red Machine to hold back against their largely inferior opponents in these two games.
SBR Parlay Prediction #1: Team Russia -4.5 (-147) & Team USA -1.5 (-125)
It's Canada and everyone else in Group B Olympic Men's Ice Hockey
Stacked with an NHL squad that left Claude Giroux, Joe Thorton and the Staal brothers off the roster, Canada opens the Olympic tourney as big favorites over a decidedly under-manned Norway squad who they defeated 8-0 in Vancouver 2010. Finland, who have hit the medal podium in the last two Olympics, open their Sochi run versus Austria who are back in Olympic hockey competition for the first time since the 202 Utah, USA Games.
SBR Parlay Prediction #2: Team Canada -4.5 (-160) & Team Finland -3.5 (-130)
