San Diego vs St. Louis: Padres Host MLB Best Cardinals in SoCal

San Diego vs St. Louis: Padres Host MLB Best Cardinals in SoCal

St. Louis Cardinals: MLB best Red Birds continue to soar high

Soaring out of the 2015 MLB starting gate, with a 15-6 record in April, St. Louis has been the best team in the majors from wire to wire. Currently sporting a 77-43 record, the Cardinals are four games ahead of cross-state rival Kansas City in the race for the best record in baseball. Although a playoff position is imminent, St. Louis is still in a fight for first in the NL Central as the Cardinals lead the Pittsburgh Pirates by 4.5 games. After taking two of three contests versus San Francisco, St. Louis enjoyed a day off in California yesterday. John Lakey heads to the bump for the Cards here.

San Diego Padres: Still showing fight but the Friars NL West playoffs hopes are fading

Despite a decent 18-13 winning record since the MLB All-Star break, San Diego is still 8.5 games out of first in the NL West playoff race. The Padres path is cluttered as the Friars are chasing three teams in the NL West. San Diego, who also enjoyed a rare day off on Thursday, is on a bit of roll as they just swept the Atlanta Braves in the three-game series at home and they are 7-2 over their last nine contests. The Padres and Cardinals split a four-game series in the Show Me State back in early July. San Diego starter Andrew Cashner and the Friars are overmatched in this late night affair.

Padres vs Cardinals MLB Call: St. Louis has an edge tonight as RHP John Lakey (10-7 ERA 2.87) battles RHP Andrew Cashner (4-12 ERA 4.20) in the rumble on the rubber. Lakey has been largely lights out all season and he has allowed just 20 earned runs over his last twelve starts – although eight of those runs have been scored during his last three outings. Cashner has been up and down this year, he’s allowed nine runs during three August outings, but the Padres have won five of his last eight starts. With the Cardinals being on the road – we get a fairly decent price on the best team in baseball tonight. Week 19 action kicks off at 7:00 pm EST on Oct 27, 2017.
