Minnesota Wild: Western Conference Wild Card leaders
Sporting a 21-11-7 record, two games short of the halfway point in their season, Minnesota sits fourth in the tough NHL Central Division. The Wild, with 49 points, currently occupy the first Wild Card playoff position in the West as they own a four-point lead on the Nashville Predators. After a hot 7-2-2 start, Minnesota cooled some as they posted a 4-5-2 record in November. Cranking it up in December - the Wild went 9-3-2 to close out 2015. Minnesota is back home after a four-game road trip during which they won in St. Louis (3-1) dropped 3-2 (SO) decision in Tampa Bay and then lost 2-1 to the red hot Florida Panthers prior to posting a 4-2 victory in Columbus on Tuesday.
Philadelphia Flyers: Currently on the outside of the NHL Eastern Conference playoff race
Difficult to figure out, on a night-to-night basis, Philadelphia has struggled with consistency during the first half of the 2015-16 NHL season. The Flyers posted a season high four-game winning run from November 27 to December 4 but, other than that, two in a row (three times) is Philadelphia’s best streak this season. The inconsistency has continued recently as the Flyers are 5-5-2 during their last twelve contests. Coming out of the Christmas break, Philadelphia dropped three straight West coast road games prior to posting a 4-3 win against Montreal at home on Tuesday. Philly is 16-15-7 overall and they trail Boston by five points in the race for the final playoff spot in the East.
Philadelphia vs Minnesota NHL Prediction: The Wild have an edge in goal here as Devan Dubnyk (17-11-3 GAA 2.28) faces Steve Mason (7-10-5 GAA 2.85) in the netminding matchup tonight. Dubnyk has a 2.02 GAA and a 11-5-0 record at home while Mason is 4-6-2 with a 2.94 GAA on the road this season. Minnesota, sporting a 14-5-1 record at the Xcel Energy Center, has the fifth best home mark in the NHL. Philadelphia is 25th overall with a 7-10-3 record during road contests. We like the Wild with a ten-unit wager on the money line price posted at SportsInteraction.
