Oakland vs New York: Athletics Host Mets in MLB Interleague Action
Oakland Athletics: Wilting in the dog days of August
After leading the American League West for most of the 2014 MLB season, Oakland as fallen on tough times and now sit a half game behind the Anaheim Angeles in the race for first. The Athletics have lost seven of their last nine games but broke out big time last night as they registered a 6-2 win over the Mets. RHP Jeff Samardzija (5-9 ERA 2.96) has yet to lose in his new home ballpark and Oakland is 5-0 in his five starts at O.co Coliseum. The Sam Man faces a New York squad that sits seventh worst with 1028 strikeouts.
New York Mets: Looking to avoid sixth straight MLB losing season
New York is just 14 loses away from a sixth straight losing season – with 35 games left on their schedule. Counting the blowout loss last night, the Metropolitans are on a 3-7 recent run and have been outscored 41-29 in those ten contests. Mets starter RHP Zack Wheeler (8-8 ERA 3.49) has been hot recently as he is undefeated in his last ten starts (5-0) and has allowed just 12 earned runs over his last 51.2 innings pitched. While we don’t see a blowout happening here – we do like the Athletics at home in this contest today.
