Central Florida: Stout defense leads the Knights
Though they have taken a step back from their major Bowl Game appearance last season, a 52-42 win over Baylor in the Fiesta Bowl, the Knights are aiming for a third straight postseason victory. This is the second time in three years that Central Florida is playing at Tropicana Field as they overpowered Ball State 38-17 in the Beef ’O’ Brady’s Bowl two years ago. The Knights scoring defense was 8th best in the NCAA as they allowed 17.9 points per game while the offense was middle of the pack averaging 28.2 points per game.
NC State: Wolfpack possesses a triple threat rushing attack
After jumping out of the gate at 4-0, the Wolfpack dropped four straight before closing their season on a 3-1 winning run. NC State running backs Shadrach Thornton (147 carries) and Matt Dayes (91 carries), along with QB Jacoby Brissett (110 carries) combined for 1,804 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns this season. Brissett added another 2,344 passing yards and 22 scores to the Wolfpack offense. NC State ranked 68th in scoring defense as they allowed 27 points per game while their offense was 61st in scoring with 28.9 PPG.
Knights vs Wolfpack Game Day Call: The NC State offense will be tested by the fifth ranked UCF run defense that allowed just 94.8 yards per game and eight scores. If the Wolfpack are forced to the air, the Knights will be ready as they were tenth overall with 18 INT this season. Playing just 121 miles from their campus in Orlando, Central Florida should have a solid “home crowd” advantage in this contest.
