NHL Stanley Cup Odds Update: Penguins Still the Team to Beat

NHL Stanley Cup Odds Update: Penguins Still the Team to Beat
After the first set of opening-round games, do we have a clearer picture of who will come out on top and win the Stanley Cup in 2018? While it still. May be too early to make that call just yet, sportsbooks have released updated prices for outright Stanley Cup futures — with the Nashville Predators still at the top of the list.

Here’s a look at the top 5 favourites to win Lord Stanley’s Mug in 2018 (odds courtesy of Bodog).

Cup Odds

Nashville Predators (+400)

NHL - Playoff
Sunday 22 April
Nashville Predators
Colorado Avalanche

Preds @ Avs

  Money Line

There hasn’t been many hiccups in Nashville’s game through the opening four matches of the Stanley Cup playoffs as the Preds have dominated the Colorado Avalanche.

Oddsmakers still have the Predators as the odds-on favourite at +400 to win the Stanley Cup, just a year after reaching the final only to lose to Pittsburgh in six games.

Nashville has scored 16 goals in four games as the club looks to finish off the Avs and rest up for the second round of the post-season as soon as possible. Austin Watson has been the Predators’ most productive player, netting 3 goals and 2 assists through the opening four matches.

Vegas Golden Knights (+500)

NHL - Playoff
Tuesday 17 April
Vegas Golden Knights
Los Angeles Kings

Knights @ Kings

  Money Line

The dream season for the expansion Vegas Golden Knights is alive and well.

The Knights made easy work of the Los Angeles Kings in the first round, sweeping the two-time Stanley Cup champions in four straight. That has vaulted the Vegas Knights into second position in the outright odds favourites.

Many bettors are finally believing the Knights are for real, especially after a convincing win against the Kings. The Knights are +500 favourites to win it all and become the only NHL team in history to win a title in its inaugural season.

Marc- Andre Fleury has been the story for the Knights so far as the goaltender has posted a 4-0 record with a 0.65 GAA and .970 save percentage.

Pittsburgh Penguins (+550)

NHL - Playoff
Sunday 22 April
Pittsburgh Penguins
Philadelphia Flyers

Pens @ Flyers

  Money Line

The back-to-back Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins are heating up at the right time once again. After finishing second behind the Washington Capitals in the Metropolitan Division, the Penguins are coasting in the first round of the playoffs.

Sidney Crosby and Co. has scored 18 goals in 4 games against the Philadelphia Flyers as the defending champions are looking to become the first team since the 1980s Islanders to win three straight Stanley Cup crowns. Crosby is once again leading that charge as the three-time Stanley Cup champion has 9 points in 4 games played.

At +550, get in on that price now as it will dip the deeper the Penguins go.

Tampa Bay Lightning (+550)

NHL - Playoff
Saturday 21 April
New Jersey Devils
Tampa Bay Lightning

Devils @ Lightning

  Money Line

Once considered the odds-on favourites to win the championship in 2018, the Tampa Bay Lightning sputtered down the stretch and slipped to No. 4 among frontrunners to win the title.

The Bolts came out of the gate quickly in the first round against the New Jersey Devils and showed why they are still the team to beat in the Eastern Conference.

Tampa has scored 13 goals in the opening 4 games of the series, with Nikita Kucherov and Alex Killorn making up 8 of those tallies. The Lightning offence is back to where it used to be, which makes the legitimate contenders as the NHL playoffs carry on.

Winnipeg Jets (+650)

NHL - Playoff
Friday 20 April
Minnesota Wild
Winnipeg Jets

Minnesota Wild @ Winnipeg Jets

  Money Line

The dark horse to come out of the Western Conference this season is the Winnipeg Jets. The team went into the post-season with high expectations and the Jets have showed they belong, scoring 11 goals through the opening 4 games of their series against the Minnesota Wild.

Sophomore sniper Patrik Laine is getting the job done for Winnipeg as the star forward has 2 goals and 2 assists in 4 games played. Of course, if the Jets want to get to the Stanley Cup Final, they’ll have to get through the Nashville Predators at some point during these playoffs. However, expect the money to start come pouring in on the red-hot Jets.

Stanley Cup Winner Prediction: Pittsburgh Penguins (+550)
Runner up: Winnipeg Jets (+650)
