Preview and Odds For the 2020 NFL Draft
Although the festivities in Las Vegas have been cancelled, the 2020 NFL Draft will still move forward starting on Thursday, April 23. While this will be a ‘virtual draft’ for fans to enjoy, there’s still plenty of hype and excitement surrounding the annual event.
In this piece, we take a look at the main storylines and odds for how things will end up going down for teams in both conferences.
The NFL Draft will kick off on April 23, with teams looking to improve on both sides of the ball through the seven rounds of picks. Here are the main talking points leading up to the No. 1 pick being called.
- Where will Tua Tagovailoa get drafted?
- Will Justin Herbert get taken before Tagovailoa?
- Who will be the first running back taken?
- Will the Patriots end up taking a QB in the first round?
- Joe Burrow will no doubt be the No. 1 pick

Bengals will take LSU QB Joe Burrow with the first pick
Folks, while there are many surprises on the way in the 2020 NFL Draft, the top selection won’t be one of them. LSU quarterback Joe Burrow, fresh off a National Championship-winning season, is basically a lock to go to the Cincinnati Bengals No. 1 overall.
After the senior campaign Burrow had, which also included a Heisman Trophy, the good folks in Cincy have been as the future of the franchise. He currently holds 1.05 odds to hear his name called first by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.
This past fall, the 6-4, 215-pounder tossed for a mind-blowing 5,671 yards and 60 touchdowns. Yup, he’s one of a kind. He’ll be donning a Bengals jersey next season.
Who will draft Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa?
Although all eyes will be on Burrow leading up to next Thursday, thousands of folks out there are waiting to see where Alabama signal-caller Tua Tagovailoa will be selected. He suffered a concerning hip injury midway through last season but has battled back to get close to 100 percent.
Of late, he’s been linked to the Lions, Dolphins, Chargers and others. However, Oregon’s Justin Herbert continues to see his stock rise. As things stand, Herbert has 1.87 odds to be the second QB drafted and Tagovailoa is at 1.77
Who will be the first running back drafted?
If a team is interested in adding a speedster to their backfield, either Georgia running back D’Andre Swift or Wisconsin’s Jonathan Taylor is expected to be the first RB taken. Swift has the higher odds of the two at 1.50 (to be first RB drafted), while Taylor is at 3.00.
In his latest Mock Draft, ESPN insider Mel Kiper Jr. has Swift going to the Kansas City Chiefs at No. 32. Could you imagine him with Patrick Mahomes, Tyreek Hill, Travis Kelce and Co. on offence? Whoa.

Will the Patriots select a quarterback in the first round?
With Tom Brady gone and now in Tampa Bay, New England is in need of their QB of the future. Will that player be Jordan Love? The Utah State product offers up plenty of intrigues and some out there think Bill Belichick could take him at No. 23 overall.
However, the Pats could go in another direction. The odds of them taking a defensive player in the first round is 1.59, while them taking an offensive player is listed at 2.30.
