New York vs Columbus: Islanders and Blue Jackets Battle in Brooklyn
New York Islanders: Look to get back to their winning ways
After running hot to open their season, New York was 18-8-5 back on December 13, the Islanders have been struggling recently. New York is just 4-7-0 over their last eleven games and they were outscored by a 24-5 margin during the seven losses. The Islanders closed out 2015 with wins over Toronto (6-3) and Buffalo (2-1) but they are 1-3 in the New Year as their win over Dallas (6-5) was offset by losses to Pittsburgh, Washington and Philadelphia by a 13-3 final count. With talents like John Tavares and Kyle Okposo – New York is better than the numbers they have posted recently.
Columbus Blue Jackets: Rare winning run in November is now a distant memory
It’s been a rocky first half for Columbus as the Blue Jackets are stuck in the NHL cellar. After they posted a 2-10-0 mark in October, Columbus appeared to be on the upswing as they went 8-5-0 in November. The winning didn’t last though as the Blue Jackets have posted a dismal 5-9-4 record over their last 18 games. With starter Sergei Bobrovsky re-sidelined with a groin injury, goaltending continues to be a huge issue as Columbus was outscored by a 31-23 margin during a recent 2-6-0 slide that includes back-to-back losses to Carolina. The Blue Jackets record matches their talent.
Islanders vs Blue Jackets NHL Call: This is the third of five meetings between these Metropolitan Division rivals this season. New York won the first two matches by 4-0 and 3-2 (OT) scores in games that were both played in Columbus. Jaroslav Halak (22-10-8 GAA 2.21) faces Anton Forsberg (1-2-0 GAA 2.48) in the goaltending duel tonight. Halak has owned Columbus recently as he is 5-0-2 with a 2.22 GAA during his last seven battles with the Blue Jackets. Forsberg allowed six goals during his first career start versus the Islanders as New York cruised to a 6-3 win back on February 14, 2015. We see this as a solid opportunity for New York to fire up their currently sluggish offense. Back the Islanders with a ten-unit wager on the -195 money line price posted at SportsInteraction.
Update: Thomas Greiss (12-6-2 GAA 2.33) is starting in goal but we still like the Islanders here.
