New York vs Chicago: NHL Original Six Squads Battle in the Big Apple

New York vs Chicago: NHL Original Six Squads Battle in the Big Apple
National Hockey League Original Six teams, that first played each other way back in 1927, battle in the Big Apple when Chicago visits New York tonight. The Blackhawks currently own a Western Conference second best 79 points while the Rangers 70 points good for third overall in the Eastern Conference. There will be a tangible playoff feel to this contest being as this could be a Stanley Cup Finals matchup in late May. Meeting for the second and final time during the NHL regular season, the Hawks and Blueshirts square off at 8:05 PM ET on February 17, 2016, at historic Madison Square Garden in New York, NY.

New York Rangers: Rough slide late in 2015 is a distant memory

Steamrolling over everyone in their path, out of the NHL starting gate in October, New York was the best team in the league with a 16-3-2 record back on November 23, 2015. The Rangers were knocked down a few pegs however as they closed out the 2015 portion of their slate on a 5-10-2 slide. The New Year has been a revival in the Big Apple as the Blueshirts have a 11-5-2 record in 2016 and they’ve earned at least one point during a 8-0-2 run over their last ten games on home ice. New York is 5-1-1 in February and defense has been key to their success as they have outscored their opponents by a 21-14 margin – including a 15-6 count in the five wins. The Rangers are fairly well rested as they posted a 3-1 win over Philadelphia at The Garden in their last action on Sunday.

Chicago Blackhawks: Recent raking of the Maple Leafs snapped a mini-losing streak

Riding just their second three-game losing streak this season, a visit by Toronto was just what the doctor ordered as Chicago raked the Maples Leafs 7-2 in their last action on Monday. Prior to that, the Blackhawks had lost three in a row at home versus top Western Conference foes San Jose (2-0) Dallas (4-2) and Anaheim 3-2 in overtime. After a solid 22-13-4 run during the 2015 portion of their schedule, the Hawks have hit an even higher gear as they are 15-5-1 in the New Year. Chicago is in a battle for top spot in the Western Conference as they trail Dallas by just one point – though the Stars do have two games in hand on the Hawks. The Windy City Crew were 1-0 winners during their battle with the Blueshirts in their last visit to the Big Apple on March 18, 2015.

New York vs Chicago NHL Call: Corey Crawford (31-14-3 GAA 2.19) battles Henrik Lundqvist (28-14-4 GAA 2.29) in the netminders matchup tonight. Following a solid run, during which he posted a 13-2-0 record, Crawford didn’t receive much support as the Hawks fell by a 9-4 margin during three straight losses. Crawford has struggled some away from the United Center as his 1.75 GAA at home balloons to 2.78 during contests on the road. Lundqvist had a sketchy December as he allowed 33 goals en route to a 4-6-1 record during eleven starts – including five contests where he allowed four or more goals. The New Year has been a different story though as The King is 11-4-1 and he’s allowed just 31 goals over those 16 appearances. This is the second and final regular season meeting after the Rangers spoiled the Blackhawks Stanley Cup banner raising ceremony with a 3-2 win at the Madhouse on Madison during the first game of the year for both squads. We are backing the Blueshirts with a five-unit wager on the SportsInteraction money line price.
