2019 NBA Playoffs Odds & Predictions
Our 2019 NBA playoffs odds preview features every club which qualified for the post season, including predictions for eastern and western conference brackets. The Golden State Warriors have been strong favorites all season long, even as teams like the Toronto Raptors, Houston Rockets and Milwaukee Bucks provide the potential for a massive upset. Will the Dubs complete a three-peat or fall short after a regular season of internal bickering?
Let’s have a look at the current NBA Playoff odds.
NBA Eastern Conference Playoffs
Toronto Raptors -333 vs Orlando Magic +230
Toronto will have a genuine shot at making the NBA Finals if they don’t mess around with lesser opponents during the first couple of series in the eastern bracket. Unfortunately for the Raptors, franchise history shows a tendency to start the post season slowly. Regardless of history, Toronto will be strong favorites to escape the first round, according to NBA futures betting.
Orlando was one of the hottest teams in the east to finish the regular season, capable of stealing a game or two from the Raptors. OG Anunoby will be missed as a vital contributor on the second unit, but Kawhi and Lowry will be able to overcome a less talented Magic squad.
Pick Toronto -333
Milwaukee Bucks -10000 vs Detroit Pistons +2000
The Milwaukee Bucks should be able to overwhelm the Detroit Pistons, who barely scratched their way into the post season. Milwaukee might drop a game if Blake Griffin somehow gets healthy and breaks out for a vintage performance. Unfortunately for the Pistons, Griffin might not be able to suit up due to a lingering knee injury suffered during the stretch run.
Without Griffin, this series becomes the most lopsided according to 2019 NBA playoff odds, with Antetokounmpo and the Bucks listed as whopping -10000 favorites to win the series. Regardless of how many teams make the NBA playoffs, there’s always one squad which doesn’t have a reasonable shot. Detroit’s that team in 2019.
Pick Bucks -10000
Philadelphia 76ers -208 vs Brooklyn Nets +150
Philadelphia will go as far as Joel Embiid’s creaky knees will take them. The superstar center enters the playoffs with a sore knee, missing more than a dozen games during the second half of the campaign. The 76ers will need big acquisition Jimmy Butler to step things up a bit while Joel struggles to regain his physicality.
The Brooklyn Nets were one of the best stories of the 2018-19 season, rising back into the playoffs after dealing with the aftermath of horrendously incompetent ownership. Brooklyn coach Kenny Atkinson moulded his young stars into a fast and fearless crew willing to grind out tough wins. Philly should win this series, but it will be more competitive than expected because of Joel’s injury.
Pick 76ers -208
Boston Celtics -1250 vs Indiana Pacers +550
This series consists of two teams who don’t deserve the fate handed out to them this regular season. Indiana’s one of the most underrated squads in the NBA, leveraging hard work and team play to earn a playoff spot despite an injury to superstar Vic Oladipo. Boston’s bickered all season and took plenty of nights off, but enjoy a favorable first round draw because of Indana’s injury situation.
The Pacers don’t have enough talent to defeat the Celtics, who enjoy an embarrassment of riches. An easy series win over Indiana could be what Boston needs to spark the cohesive team spirit needed for a long playoff run.
Pick Celtics -1250
NBA Western Conference Playoffs
Golden State Warriors -833 vs Los Angeles Clippers +10000
Since the preseason, NBA futures betting listed the Golden State Warriors as prohibitive favorites to win their third consecutive ring in 2019. Adding DeMarcus Cousins to the club created one of the best starting five in NBA history, only increasing the odds of another championship.
The Los Angeles Clippers will try but fail to put a dent in the armor of the Warriors. Some believe that the Clippers might steal a game, but Golden State should be able to break out the brooms against an inferior first-round opponent.
Pick Warriors -833
Denver Nuggets -133 vs San Antonio Spurs -105
Despite an excellent campaign from the Nuggets, this first round series is the most likely candidate to turn into a seven-game battle. Denver edges San Antonio in terms of raw talent, but the Spurs mix of veteran stars with the genius of coach Popovich will give the Nuggets problems.
Denver’s main issue will be a lack of playoff basketball experience on the roster and behind the bench. Coach Malone’s one of the best and brightest, but he lacks the extensive post season resume of Popovich. Seven seeds rarely upset second seeds, but San Antonio isn’t your run-of-the-mill challenger.
Pick Spurs -105
Houston Rockets -455 vs Utah Jazz +280
James Harden enters the post season as the most unstoppable player in the NBA, capable of single-handedly beating any team on a given evening. Harden and Chris Paul, along with an outstanding rotation of role players, will be considered the most significant challenge to the Warriors reign.
Utah feature some of the best young talent in Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert, but the duo doesn’t have the support or experience required to upset a strong favorite like the Rockets. The Jazz could take a game or two, but the Rockets will proceed into the second round with relatively little bother.
Pick Rockets -455
Portland Trail Blazers -143 vs Oklahoma City Thunder +102
Prone to shooting droughts of epic proportions, the Oklahoma City Thunder will enjoy an outstanding opportunity to proceed to the western conference finals this year. Similar to Indiana, Portland enter the playoffs with a star contributor missing after Jusuf Nurkic suffered a gruesome leg injury towards the end of the season.
Damian Lillard’s one of the most underrated superstars in the association, but the Trail Blazers interior defense won’t be able to defend against Paul George, Russell Westbrook and Steven Adams. This will be OKC’s best shot at making the western conference finals since Durant left for the Bay Area.
Pick Thunder +102
NBA Playoffs Quick Predictions
Eastern Conference Champions
Toronto Raptors +275
Toronto overcomes a slow start in the early rounds to narrowly defeat the Milwaukee Bucks in the eastern conference finals. The playoff experience of Leonard, Green, Ibaka and Gasol helps overcome a relatively inexperienced Bucks squad.
- Milwaukee Bucks +125
- Toronto Raptors +275
- Boston Celtics +350
- Philadelphia 76ers +500
- Orlando Magic +2800
- Brooklyn Nets +3300
- Indiana Pacers +6600
- Detroit Pistons +15000
Western Conference Champions
Golden State Warriors -357
Golden State cruises through a first round win over the Clippers and defuses a Houston club which features less defensive depth compared to the 2018 version of the Rockets. The Warriors clobber Oklahoma City in the western finals after the Thunder progress through an easy western bracket.
- Golden State Warriors -357
- Houston Rockets +500
- Denver Nuggets +1200
- Oklahoma City Thunder +2200
- San Antonio Spurs +2500
- Portland Trail Blazers +2800
- Utah Jazz +3500
- Los Angeles Clippers +20000
2019 NBA Finals Pick
Golden State Warriors -227
The Warriors completely overwhelm their opponent in the NBA Finals after the winner of the eastern conference emerges bruised from a competitive eastern bracket. Golden State won’t have home advantage over the Raptors or Bucks, so expect a sweep partly because game four will take place in Oakland, allowing the Warriors to celebrate their three-peat on home soil.
NBA Championship Odds
- Golden State Warriors -227
- Milwaukee Bucks +600
- Houston Rockets +1000
- Toronto Raptors +1100
- Boston Celtics +1600
- Philadelphia 76ers +2500
- Denver Nuggets +4000
- Oklahoma City Thunder +4000
- San Antonio Spurs +5000
- Portland Trail Blazers +6600
- Utah Jazz +6600
- Orlando Magic +8000
- Indiana Pacers +15000
- Brooklyn Nets +15000
