NBA 2021-22 Betting Preview: The Boldest Picks You'll Find on the Internet

NBA 2021-22 Betting Preview: The Boldest Picks You'll Find on the Internet
When it comes to the NBA, you either go heavy on the chalk or take your chances with a bet everyone will laugh at. But no one is the wiser. Every season presents plenty of surprises. We're going further and digging deep into the NBA futures to pick longshot bets for our 2021-22 NBA Preview.

With the new NBA season coming, we're left wondering if we'll see the titanic matchup between the Brooklyn Nets and Los Angeles Lakers as it's being written. Or if we'll see some teams spoil the fun like the Milwaukee Bucks and Phoenix Suns did last season.

You can actually bet both Brooklyn and the Lakers to win the title and still come away with a profit. But that's a high-risk low reward proposition. Instead, look deeper and find an underdog that may just deliver. That's what we're doing.

But first, here are the top NBA Championship contenders via the top online sportsbooks:

    Toronto Raptors

NBA Championship Pick: The Raptors and Our Underdog Bet

Sorry, but we won't be picking the Toronto Raptors to win the NBA title. As bold as we are, we can't see Canada's beloved team going anywhere close to the NBA Finals. A shot at the playoffs (3.50) is plausible but Toronto's lack of offence and experience will hurt them in the playoffs.

Instead, we're leaning on a team outside of the table to win it all. And that team, via the BetOnline odds are...

    The Denver Nuggets - 19.00

The odds aren't looking good for Denver, especially to start the season. They lost two key defensive players in center JaVale McGee and forward Paul Millsap. Star guard Jamal Murray will be out until late in 2022. In fact, there is value in betting Denver to miss the playoffs at 5.50.

But Denver will overcome a slow start and go on a blazing run post-All-Star break. Nikola Jokic will once again be in MVP form while the team is big and has plenty of scoring punch. Aaron Gordon and Michael Porter Jr. will have strong seasons while Bol Bol, "Bones" Hyland, and the returning Murray will push this team to a deep playoff run that will culminate in the franchise's first NBA title.

The Boldest NBA Predictions! Bet At Your Own Risk

Think our NBA Championship pick is crazy? Wait till you hear the rest of our predictions:

Jimmy Butler Will Win MVP - 67.00

Not only will the short-tempered swingman win the most prestigious individual award, but his Miami Heat will finish with the best record in the East. What are we smoking? The ashes of the teams they tear through en route to winning nearly 60 games and edging Brooklyn for the top spot.

Miami will stay healthier than Brooklyn and Philadelphia and is a bit more rested thanks to an early playoff exit. Acquiring Kyle Lowry gives this team a much-needed floor general outside Butler as he can focus more on scoring and playing hard-nosed defence. Don't discount a full season with a (mostly) healthy Victor Oladipo and the continued progression of star center Bam Adebayo.

The MVP will then go to the leader of the best team from the East: Jimmy Butler.

Talen Horton-Tucker Will Win Most Improved Player - 67.00

Like Butler's odds, it's crazy that "THT" is at this price to win "MIP". This isn't really that bold considering Horton-Tucker will see an increased workload as he is one of only three players on the rotation who is young and won't be playing part-time thanks to being old or frail.

Horton-Tucker can do it all. Watch as he averages 16-5-5 with three combined steals and blocks playing just under 30 minutes. He's a Laker, will gett LeBron James's endorsement, and will arouse the stat-obsessed fans and voters enough to at least be a finalist for the award.

Clint Capela Will Win Defensive Player of the Year - 41.00

Yet another bet that isn't as crazy as the odds being too wide. Clint Capela was and still is a legitimate Defensive Player of the Year contender. He's the reason the Hawks are a top-ten defence and a quick look at his box plus-minus on/off the floor proves it.

At some point, voters will get tired of shooing Rudy Gobert for the annual award. That leaves the door open for someone like Ben Simmons or Matisse Thybulle to win. But 15 of the last 17 winners have been "big men" for a reason and Capela may just beat out the likes of Adebayo and Joel Embiid for it.

Taylor Jenkins Wins Coach of the Year - 23.00

Our "mildest" bet goes to the Memphis Grizzlies' coach winning the honour. This means we have Memphis taking a big step this season. Gone is the team that contends for a play-in spot and instead, we have a new 50-win team that will also win the Southwest Division (5.25).

Memphis already showed flashes of being a contender in the NBA last season. Their top-ten defence will get better with the addition of center Steven Adams and all their young players, notably franchise guard Ja Morant, should make a leap this year.
