Canelo Alvarez puts his four super middleweight titles on the line for a shot at becoming the first-ever undisputed super middleweight champion in boxing history. In his way is Caleb Plant who holds the IBF title and is looking to shock the world as a 6-1 underdog. This will either be easy work for Canelo or we’re all in on for the upset of the year.
MLB 2021 Playoffs: Betting on The Blue Jays’ Exciting Year
It’s been a roller coaster for the Toronto Blue Jays and its fans. This team has flashed serious potential all season long and lead the majors in home runs. Robbie Ray has emerged as a Cy Young frontrunner and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. could win MVP. The Blue Jays are still in Wild Card contention and a strong playoff run will be the cherry on top of this fun year.
The Blue Jays are in the thick of the most exciting Wild Card race in the MLB in recent history. Two games back of either the Boston Red Sox or New York Yankees, Toronto needs to deliver in this final week. The team remains a popular pick to win the World Series thanks to their powerful offence and surprising pitching.
But many teams are ahead of the Blue Jays and they are at best, a dark horse per the top online sportsbooks:

MLB World Series 2021: The Blue Jays Versus The Best
The Blue Jays have plenty of work left before the fans can even imagine a World Series. The first step is to win the remainder of its games and seize a Wild Card spot. Toronto sits two games behind their division rivals, the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees.
If Toronto can win out and qualify for the playoffs, it will likely have to beat Boston or New York then face Tampa Bay, the reigning American League Champions, and the team that eliminated them from last year’s playoffs. If the Jays can spring the upset, it will then be matched up against the winner of the White Sox-Astros series in the ALCS.
In the World Series, Toronto will likely face one of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Milwaukee Brewers, or San Francisco Giants. Either way, the Blue Jays will be an underdog and will need to win many games outside of their Rogers Centre. It’s a tough road, simply speaking, but the red-hot offense and clutch pitching can make it possible.
But how do the Jays match up against the top World Series contenders (odds via SportsInteraction (SIA))?
Los Angeles Dodgers – 4.00
The defending World Series champions have clinched a playoff spot and are just two games back of the Giants for the NL West title. The Jays have not faced them since 2019 and they lost all three games while being outscored 21 to 6. The Dodgers allow the fewest runs in the majors (3.46) thanks to the deadliest pitching lineup in baseball that now includes Max Scherzer.
Houston Astros – 6.50
The hated Astros are the most prolific offence in the majors with 5.35 runs scored per game and a .340 on-base percent. Toronto is only 2-4 in two series against Houston and allowed 42 runs (seven a game) in this span. But the Astros’ pitching or defence is not as formidable as the Dodgers’ or White Sox’s.
Tampa Bay Rays – 7.00
The Blue Jays’ AL East rival is picking up where it left off last season. Tampa has the second-best offence and a top-ten defence and is 17-12 against Toronto in its regular-season meeting since last year. The Rays will also be more potent heading to the postseason with shortstop Wander Franco returning.
The Blue Jays’ Awards: Who Could Win Some Hardware?
Not making the playoffs would be a terrible disappointment to the Blue Jays and their fans. But even if they come up short, this season has already been remarkable thanks in part to the remarkable efforts of some individual players:
Robbie Ray To Win AL Cy Young Award – 1.53
The biggest surprise of the Blue Jays’ season is none other than left-handed pitcher Robbie Ray. The former Diamondback is having a career season with a 2.68 ERA and is second in the team with a 7.0 WAR. Ray leads the AL in games started and innings pitched and the majors in strikeouts with 244.
The Yankees’ Gerrit Cole (2.50) still has an outside shot of edging Ray. But it’s unlikely as Ray could be the first Blue Jay to win this prestigious award since the legend himself, Roy Halladay.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. To Win AL MVP – 5.83
It was a breakout season for the Blue Jays’ prized prospect. ”Vlad” is third in the team in WAR (6.8) and he leads the majors in hits, runs, home runs, and total bases. But what makes Vlad even more deserving is his improved play on defense.
But as impressive as Guerrero has been, he is a distant runner-up to the MLB’s newest superstar: Shohei Ohtani (1.06). Even if his Angels won’t make the playoffs, Ohtani’s spectacular play as both a hitter and pitcher has everyone raving.
Alex Manoah To Win AL Rookie of The Year – 76.00
An even bigger long shot is the Blue Jays’ top rookie this year, Alex Manoah. The 6’6″ right-handed pitcher has compiled a 7-2 record as a starting pitcher and is second in the team in strikeouts-per-nine innings and ERA. However, Rookie of the Year is a stacked field this season.
The Rays’ Randy Arozarena (1.61) is the runaway favourite. The Cuban outfielder has been a catalyst for the Rays as his second-half hot streak: a .300/.371/.544 line has everyone buzzing.
