MLB World Series 2019 Favorites
- Boston Red Sox +600
- Houston Astros +600
- New York Yankees +650
- Los Angeles Dodgers +700
Boston Red Sox +600
Last year’s World Series winners lead the MLB futures odds for 2019, according to sports betting sites
. Boston retained most of the outstanding talent which lifted them to a perfect season
. The Red Sox feature a rare mix of superstars and depth at all positions, including role players who excel at a specific aspect of the sport
. As long as they stay healthy, the BoSox will remain among World Series 2019 favorites for most of the season.
Houston Astros +600
Houston didn’t use injuries as an excuse, but the Astros were not able to gear up during the postseason - most notably Jose Altuve. Stacked with big bats and depth throughout the lineup, Houston has the option of landing a big fish like Machado or Harper to guarantee an edge in firepower. Will the Astros ownership be the first to splash cash on a big free agent acquisition?
New York Yankees +650
The empire used to throw cash at free agents to remain perpetually competitive. Now the New York Yankees combine an excellent farm system with unlimited free agent money to guarantee dominance. The Yanks locked up Zack Britton and J.A. Happ to shore up the starters and relievers. If Judge and other young stars continue to progress, this club could overwhelm the MLB.
Los Angeles Dodgers +700
The balance of power has shifted to the American League over the past few years, as the Red Sox, Yankees and Astros continue to collect and develop talent. Los Angeles features the deepest array of pitchers and position players in the National League, but they don’t have the same overwhelming force of A.L. favorites. Unless the Dodgers add talent, they’re the favorite most likely to fall out of contention in 2019.
Toronto Blue Jays World Series Odds
Toronto Blue Jays +5000
The Toronto Blue Jays will be among the most intriguing franchises of 2019 as their young talent continues to grow. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is slated to join the big show, with superstar expectations. Toronto’s pitching rotation has been devastated by injuries over the past couple of years.
If Stroman and Sanchez stay healthy, they form a superb one-two punch, while Borucki and Reid-Foley showed outstanding potential as regular starters. Toronto’s bats appear ready to break out - if the pitching manages to outperform expectations, the A.L. East will be more competitive than expected.
World Series Dark Horses 2019
- Cleveland Indians +1200
- Chicago Cubs +1200
- Milwaukee Brewers +1400
- Atlanta Braves +1400
- Philadelphia Phillies +1600
- St Louis Cardinals +1800
- Washington Nationals +1800
Cleveland picked up Encarnacion and Donaldson, experienced playoff contributors who didn’t pan out in the post season. Andrew Miller also had a down year, preventing the bullpen from locking down games like 2016. Cleveland still features some of the best pitching and solid batters who trend towards small ball, making them a legit threat.
Chicago wasn’t able to reproduce the magic which ended their long World Series drought in 2016. This year, the rotation will need to prove themselves all over again while the Cubs wade through early season controversy. As such, this team’s an expensive risk for MLB futures in a deep National League.
The Milwaukee Brewers weren’t able to successfully leverage a unique, reliever-heavy pitching strategy into glory. They have some of the best position players in the business, but they’ll need to solidify their starters to become a true MLB superpower.
Atlanta surprised plenty of MLB observers last season, breaking out of a playoff slump with outstanding pitching and the emergence of superstar Ronald Acuna Jr. The Braves added Donaldson, Markakis and McCann, bolstering their bats while adding playoff experience. In the weak NL East, Atlanta will enjoy the opportunity to rise into their potential.
Philadelphia’s added a slew of veteran talent in an attempt to push for a playoff run. However, without another major acquisition like Machado or Harper, the Phillies will face difficulties leapfrogging the division rival Braves.
St. Louis will attempt to revive Andrew Miller, who served as a shutdown set-up man on the fantastic bullpen of Cleveland in 2017. The Cardinals needed to add more starting pitching, even if the addition of Goldschmidt will help the club overpower teams on occasion.
Last year was supposed to be the season when the Nationals finally made the leap, but Washington endured a horribly disappointing season instead. There’s no sign that Bryce Harper will return to the lineup, which greatly decreases the odds of a resurgence.
World Series Longshots
Plenty of teams feature solid lineups with a few outstanding players, but a breakthrough to the top echelon of ballclubs remains a distant dream because of the massive talent gap between average teams and genuine World Series contenders.
One of the better longshot values for MLB futures, the Toronto Blue Jays feature the deepest group of young, talented position players. If Toronto’s starters impress, the Yankees and Red Sox will have more competition than expected. The most overrated longshot team would be the New York Mets, a one-dimensional club which leans on their starters too much to succeed.
- New York Mets +2200
- Oakland Athletics +3300
- Colorado Rockies +4000
- Arizona Diamondbacks +5000
- Tampa Bay Rays +5000
- Los Angeles Angels +5000
- Toronto Blue Jays +5000
MLB Teams With Long Playoff Odds
The following clubs are locked into rebuilds or simply lack the talent to compete at a high level this season. As a result, these teams are extremely unlikely to earn an MLB wild card or a division title.
- Pittsburgh Pirates +6600
- Seattle Mariners +6600
- Minnesota Twins +8000
- Chicago White Sox +10000
- San Francisco Giants +12500
- Cincinnati Reds +12500
- San Diego Padres +12500
- Texas Rangers +12500
- Detroit Tigers +25000
- Miami Marlins +25000
- Kansas City Royals +25000
- Baltimore Orioles +35000
