Kentucky Derby 2019 Odds
Trainer Bob Baffert has already cemented his legacy as one of the greatest in thoroughbred history. His latest powerhouse in the Triple Crown is Roadster, who leads Kentucky Derby odds on sports betting sites
during the run up to the event.
Roadster punched his ticket to the Kentucky Derby by winning the Santa Anita Derby in California with a solid time of 1:51.28. He outlasted his rival Game Winner to take the million dollar purse.
Game Winner +500
The biggest threat to Roadster is another Bob Baffert horse, Game Winner. He finished second to Roadster at the Santa Anita and second to Omaha Beach at the Rebel, but Game Winner started the season with a pair of prep wins at the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile and the American Pharoah.
This horse has the talent needed to win the Kentucky Derby, but much will depend on his starting gate and the possibility of fatigue over a long race season. Still, Game Winner forms a triumvirate with Roadster and Omaha Beach at the top of the Triple Crown elite.
Omaha Beach +500
Omaha Beach beat Improbable at the Arkansas Derby, along with a win over Game Winner at the Rebel division two. This horse finished second overall in points during the Road to the Kentucky Derby, proving his mettle against tough competition.
Trained by Richard E. Mandella, Omaha Beach is the best hope for those who don’t want another Bob Baffert horse to win. Mandella has created success around the U.S. circuit, but hasn’t broken through at the Triple Crown level yet. This is his best shot in years.
Will Improbable become a casualty to strategic thoroughbred racing? With three of the top four horses in terms of Kentucky Derby horse odds, Bob Baffert might have Improbable target Omaha Beach in an attempt to block Omaha Beach from beating Roadster or Game Winner.
Improbable finished second to Omaha Beach at the Arkansas Derby and at the Rebel division one, but managed to win the Los Alamitos Futurity. If this horse receives a favorable gate, Improbable could be one of the best betting values for Kentucky Derby odds 2019.
Tacitus owned the Aqueduct, winning the Wood Memorial over Tax. The horse also took the Tampa Bay Derby to finish first in points during the Road to the Kentucky Derby. Unlike Mandella, trainer William Mott has a Triple Crown win under his belt when Drosselmeyer emerged victorious at the 2010 Belmont Stakes.
Tacitus will be another superb betting value for the 2019 Kentucky Derby, partly because thoroughbred fans invest heavily in Bob Baffert horses - for good reason. However, Tacitus is a proven winner, fully capable of taking the Run for the Roses.
Maximum Security +1000
Maximum Security flew down the Gulfstream to emerge as the winner of the $1,000,000 Florida Derby, taking first place by 3 ½ lengths over Bodexpress wire-to-wire. This impressive performance earned the thoroughbred a spot at the Kentucky Derby as a dark horse candidate.
Intriguingly, Maximum Security has far surpassed expectations as a competitor, including an 18 ¼ length win during an allowance race. If this horse enjoys running at Churchill Downs as much as Gulfstream, Maximum Security might surprise.
Code Of Honor +1400
Code Of Honor was soundly defeated by Maximum Security and Bodexpress at the Florida Derby, but gained entry into the Kentucky Derby with a solid win at the Fountain Of Youth and a second place finish at the Champagne Stakes.
As such, Code certainly has the potential to stun the field at Churchill Downs, but inconsistent results suggests that a Triple Crown win will be a bit of a stretch. Nonetheless, as a winner during the Road to the Kentucky Derby, he’s considered a horse worth watching.

Kentucky Derby Props
Odds for the Kentucky Derby feature a variety of prop bets for the event, including over/unders and specific wagers on the outcome.
Over/Under Winning Time
Over 2:02:65 -120 - Under 2:02:65 -120
Keep an eye out on the weather while wagering on this prop. A winning time under 2:02:65 is extremely unlikely under sloppy conditions.
How Many Lengths Will The Winner Win By?
Over 1.5 -160 - Under 1.5 +120
Will the Kentucky Derby feature a photo finish? Judging by where the money flows, odds suggest that the winner will win by more than a length and a half.
Will Secretariat’s Record Be Broken?
Yes +1200 - No -7500
Only two horses have finished the Kentucky Derby under two minutes. Don’t expect any horse to shatter this 46-year-old record.
Will Kentucky Derby Have A Wire-To-Wire Winner?
Yes +550 - No -1000
Winning wire-to-wire requires an extremely aggressive strategy and a ridiculously fit horse. Considering the tough competition, a wire-to-wire win is a risky bet.
Will Kentucky Derby Winner Capture The Triple Crown?
Yes +350 - No -600
There haven’t been back-to-back Triple Crown winners since Seattle Slew and Affirmed in 1977 and 1978. It’s unlikely that a horse will follow up Justify’s Triple Crown with another this year.
