Boxing: Joshua vs Pulev Betting Picks

Boxing: Joshua vs Pulev Betting Picks

This is a real treat for all fans, not just English fans to see the great Anthony Joshua return to action. A year since he regained his belt from Andy Ruiz Jr., Joshua is now tasked with defending against Bulgarian contender Kubrat Pulev. In the co-main event is Tyson Fury's cousin, Hughie Fury putting on a show against powerful Polish, Mariusz Wach.

Originally, there were five fights set to take place on the main card. But British junior heavyweight prodigy Lawrence Okolie and Krzysztof Glowacki are off the card as the latter tested positive for COVID-19. They will have their title fight moved to a later date.

The card is still stacked enough for British fans to buy while everyone else can tune in to DAZN to catch the action. Looking at the odds, this should be chalk-heavy as we could see a showcase or some major upsets.

Here are the main betting odds courtesy of Betonline:

    Joshua vs Pulev Picks

We're back with some real boxing matches this time around and Mike Tyson vs Roy Jones Jr. was a nightmare as our picks... let's just forget about them. Boxing fans can rejoice as we've got a more straightforward set right here:

Unified Heavyweight Championship: Anthony Joshua (1.05) vs Kubrat Pulev (8.50)

Joshua returns defending his unified WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and IBO world titles against IBF mandatory challenger Kubrat Pulev. As odds would have it, this shouldn't be a close fight as AJ should just style on Pulev and win the fight. But we've seen Joshua get upset before not too long against Andy Ruiz Jr.

Pulev is not quite like Ruiz Jr., to say the least. The Bulgarian is nicknamed "Cobra" and his precise strikes could attest to that. And with heavyweight boxing, almost everyone's got a "puncher's chance". Pulev will weigh over 255 lbs, at least 20 more than Joshua.

Yet, Pulev isn't exactly a power puncher. Only half of his wins have come via TKO with the emphasis on the "Technical" part. He is a plodding heavyweight who will overwhelm his opponents slowly with calculated punches. Unfortunately for him, Joshua is a significant step up from the Rydell Bookers and Bodgan Dinus of the world.

Joshua has learned to be better defensively since being humbled by Ruiz Jr., who is significantly faster than Pulev. He'll sport a three-inch reach advantage and will be faster to the punch. This bout may go longer than odds indicate as Joshua will stick to defending himself first before going for the kill. But if and when he starts chipping away at Pulev, he'll add his scalp to his 22 knockout victims.

SBR’s pick — Joshua (1.05). Expect AJ to beat Pulev in one of many ways either by outboxing him through 12 rounds or whittling down his defences for a KO somewhere in the late rounds. Betting AJ straight has little value. Instead, look for a prop for AJ to win in rounds 9-12 for a more lucrative payout.

Heavyweight: Hughie Fury (1.17) vs Mariusz Wach (5.00)

Two fiery heavyweights go at it for the co-main event with Fury being a considerable favourite over the Pole. Fury is coming off a scintillating TKO win over Pavel Sour in March while Wach defeated American Kevin Johnson by decision. This should be a back-and-forth banger with the Brit getting the edge.

SBR’s pick — Fury (1.17). Tyson Fury's cousin has only lost to the elites of the division like Alexander Povetkin and Kubrat Pulev. Wach is a journeyman fighter who doesn't have significant finishing prowess despite being 6'8". Fury will outgun the Pole ren route to a TKO victory.

International Heavyweight Championship: Martin Bakole (1.33) vs Sergey Kuzmin (3.40)

The Congolese slugger, Bakole is being rewarded a title shot of sorts following four consecutive TKO victories. It won't come too easily as the Russian is no pushover despite coming from a decisive defeat at the hands of Michael Hunter last September. This is a showcase fight for Bakole and it should play out as such.

SBR’s pick — Bakole (1.33). It can be hard to trust the little-proven Bakole with this money, but Kuzmin is fool's gold as he's just outgunned in this spot. Bakole should take the fight to Kuzmin and overwhelm him at some point for a TKO.

Parlay: if you're going all-out on chalk, parlay these three: Joshua (1.05), Fury (1.17), and Bakole (1.33) for a 1.63 return. Add Cissokho (1.31) for 2.14 odds.

Sometimes boxing can be easy money. Find these favourites at any of the top online sportsbooks and bet them straight or parlay them for a winning weekend. Alternatively, maybe you call one of the biggest upsets with one of the dogs. Either way, check out the books and find a deposit bonus to give you extra juice.
