Fury vs Joshua Picks: Heavyweight History on the Line

Fury vs Joshua Picks: Heavyweight History on the Line

Signed, sealed, and delivered! Heavyweight champions Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua have officially agreed on a two-fight deal to unify their titles. Before we get to our Fury vs Joshua picks, let's just take a moment to appreciate how monumental this fight will be.

"This is the biggest fight in boxing and one of the biggest sporting events in the world," Eddie Hearn, Joshua's promoter and managing director of Matchroom Sport said. "One of the fascinations of this fight will be the buildup because they're two totally different personalities. Tyson is very good at that and Anthony is excited by that."

Fury and Joshua will truly be a clash of personalities and styles. As far as the betting picks go, this will be a close one. Here are the main betting odds courtesy of BetOnline:

Fury vs Joshua Betting Pick

Making a Fury vs Joshua betting pick this early is tricky mainly because many things can happen prior to the training that can alter each boxer's fate. But right now, Fury opened as the betting favourite and is at 1.53. The comeback on Joshua is 2.65. He'll be an underdog for the first time in his career.

Heavyweight Unification Bout: Tyson Fury (1.53) vs Anthony Joshua (2.65)

Fury is the betting favourite once again thanks mainly to his dominant performance against Deontay Wilder. The "Gypsy King" used his trademark herky-jerky movement to confound Wilder and beat him up. Joshua is an underdog and is coming off two clean victories over Kubrat Pulev and Andy Ruiz Jr.

At 6'9" and an 85" reach, Fury will be the bigger fighter yet again. He's done well to use his size advantage and outfought his opponents with his jabs and his unpredictable movements. It's not the prettiest style to watch, but it is a unique and effective style that is difficult to prepare for.

Joshua will be a more technical boxer than Wilder, who was easily bewildered by Fury's gameplan. Like Fury, Joshua also employs his jab and his movement to "dance around" his opponents. But in this case, he may have to try shrinking the ring and fight Fury in a phone booth. However, this didn't work out so well for him against Ruiz.

Fighting up close and "dirtying" things is something Fury is also used to. Joshua can find success here if he can beat Fury to the punch and if his chin can hold up. That's a scary proposition as Fury has quick hands, hits hard, and is incredibly durable.

But if this stays on the outside, Fury also has an edge with his reach and his movement. Joshua will have a tough time getting a bead on Fury while Fury will be able to potshot Joshua. Inside this boxing ring, he who controls the chaos wins. That leans towards the "Furious One".

SBR’s pick — Fury (1.53). There may be some value in Joshua as an underdog. He is still better technically and he's the burlier boxer. Fury won't be able to push him around up close as he did to Wilder. With that said, Joshua will have to box to near-perfection to catch Fury, who will win a judges' decision here based on his work rate and volume.

Fight Goes To Decision

Fury and Joshua have combined for 43 knockouts and Joshua has been knocked out not too long ago, but there won't be one here. Both men are relatively durable and not easily hittable. Fury is elusive and has rarely been hurt in the ring while Joshua has fought a more defensive and measured approach since his upset loss against Ruiz.

Not to mention that the stakes here will have both men a bit more hesitant to engage. This will be more of a chess match than a slugfest.

Joshua Will Be First Boxer to Bleed

Few boxers have made Joshua bleed, Ruiz probably being the only one. Fury isn't renowned for his punching power, but over the duration of 12 rounds, he can land enough hard shots to add some red in Joshua's face.

Fury will try to keep the fight on the outside to outpoint and evade Joshua, but Joshua will surely try to cut the distance and box him inside. It's during this exchange that things can get bloody
