Return of Joey Votto & Jay Bruce helps revive the Reds
After posting a mediocre 15-17 record with Bruce and Votto out with injuries, the Reds have gone 6-1 with both players back in the lineup. The white hot bat of Billy Hamilton, who is 11 for 19 over his last four games, has also helped. Cincinnati owns a 7-2 season series led over the Pirates and they have won five straight at PNC Park. Reds starter RHP Homer Baily (7-3 ERA 4.68) won't be phased by this road start as he is 5-1 with a miniscule 1.60 ERA during seven career starts in the Steel City - including three complete games.
Pittsburgh Pirates: Slow season start continues to haunt the Buccos
After raising the Jolly Roger a lot during their 94-68 run last year, a 12-20 start to the 2014 MLB season dug a hole that Pittsburgh continues to try to climb out of. Following an 8-6 win over Miami on Saturday, the Pirates had finally clawed back to a .500 record but they have now dropped three straight and sit with a 34-37 mark. LHP Jeff Locke (0-1 ERA 3.98) makes his fourth start of the season and he's fresh off a solid outing versus Miami last Friday where he went seven innings and gave up two runs on seven hits while striking out seven.
