Chicago vs Milwaukee: Cubs Battle the Brewers in Final Playoff Prep

Chicago vs Milwaukee: Cubs Battle the Brewers in Final Playoff Prep
Looking to continue their recent domination of the Milwaukee Brewers, the Chicago Cubs are in Wisconsin to wrap up their Major League Baseball regular season schedule this weekend. The Cubbies are prepping for the National League Wild Card playoff game while the Brew Crew will miss the MLB postseason for the 31st time over the past 33 years. The Cubs enter this MLB National League Central Division matchup with an 11-5 season series edge over the Brewers. First pitch flies at 6:10 PM ET on October 2, 2015, at Miller Park in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Load up and prosper with Chicago in this contest.

Cubs take a final run at NL Wild Card homefield advantage

Clinging to a faint hope that they will host the one–game NL Wild Card battle, Chicago needs to sweep Milwaukee during their MLB season ending series. Trailing Pittsburgh by two games, the Cubs need tons of help from Cincinnati as the Reds are battling the Pirates this weekend. Looking at their 63-96 record, and while stranger things have happened, it’s doubtful the Reds will sweep the Buccos so this is basically a tune-up game for the Cubbies. This could be the only game the Cubs field a full squad of starters in this series as Chicago may rest their stars prior to their Steel City Showdown.

North Siders look to continue their recent winning ways versus the Brew Crew

After a sluggish 2-4 start to their MLB 2015 season series versus Milwaukee, Chicago was outscored 32-18 in those six contests, the Cubs are on quite a roll. The young Cubbies are 9-1 against the Brewers and they have won four straight matches at Miller Park – albeit two months ago. The lone loss was a 4-1 decision at Wrigley Field on September 23. Prior to that, the Cub had crushed the Brew Crew by a 48-29 combine final score during their nine-game winning streak. The Windy City Crew are enjoying a 12-4 recent run while the Brewers are 6-10 during the same period.

Cubs vs Brewers MLB Prediction: Prior to taking the mound in the NL Wild Card game, Cubs ace RHP Jake Arrieta (21-6 ERA 1.82) will face Brewers rookie RHP Ariel Pena (2-0 ERA 3.91) in the rumble on the rubber tonight. Arrieta is looking to be just the second 22 game winner over the past seven years – Justin Verlander won 24 games for Detroit in 2011. Arrieta is a sparkling 12-1 with a 1.68 ERA away from Wrigley Field as he’s allowed just 22 earned runs over 118 innings pitched on the road. A September call up from Triple-A Colorado Springs, Pena has enjoyed a decent start to his MLB career as he’s allowed just ten runs over 23 innings pitched during five starts.
