    CFL Week 3 Predictions

    CFL Week 3 Predictions

    CFL Today's Games

Through two weeks of the CFL campaign, bettors who prefer to take the points in these games have made a killing. Underdogs on the closing point spread are a perfect 8-0 ATS through the first two weeks and you'd better believe there will be a few more casual bettors looking to get a piece of that money train this week. However, runs like that always tend to regress back to the mean, and while it may not happen in Week 3 specifically, leaning towards favorites over the coming weeks should treat your bankroll better than it did in Weeks 1 and 2.

The 8-0 ATS mark by underdogs in the CFL is sure to generate a few headlines this week and could very well influence many bettors who may be on the fence for a certain line/team. There is no point spread higher than -5 this week which will make it tougher to cash underdog point spread wagers - there is minimal room for error without outright wins at these numbers - and I wouldn't rush to blindly grab points with any of the underdogs this week.

As opposed to the last two weeks, there aren't any games on the board in Week 3 that really stand out from a rivalry standpoint. Toronto/Ottawa on Saturday would be the clubhouse leader in that regard (more on that game later), but now that we are a few weeks in, something to keep in mind is backing teams off their bye week. Winnipeg was able to collect the cash in Week 2 after sitting out Week 1, and this week it's the Hamilton Tigercats in that situation.

Canadian Football League Picks Week 3

With games on Thursday July 6th through Saturday July 8th, there is a little bit of everything for everyone in Week 3. The most competitive game on the board could very well end up being BC vs. Montreal on Thursday, but with Calgary/Winnipeg (Calgary -3) and Hamilton/Saskatchewan (Saskatchewan -1.5) both below FG lines, the numbers are tighter than they've been all year.

While the 8-0 ATS run by underdogs will get all the publicity, total bettors will note that teams not named "Ottawa" or "Calgary" have gone 1-5 O/U. BC and Montreal enter Week 3 at 0-2 O/U and both are too talented and have too many weapons for that to last much longer. That 'under' trend has already pushed this number down by at least a point, but we should see 50+ points in this one.

Staying with totals and expecting these streaky results to revert back to the mean sooner rather than later, Calgary (2-0 O/U) is in Winnipeg (1-0 O/U) on Friday night. Both teams have looked very explosive offensively in the games they've played, but Calgary is in a letdown spot after two straight Grey Cup rematches, and Winnipeg knows they need a much better showing on defence to have a chance. This total may be tight, but I fully expect it to finish below this number of 56.5.

If it's not hard to argue that Calgary is in a letdown spot after two in a row vs. Ottawa, then Ottawa being in the same position in their game vs. Toronto is a strong possibility too. I know I said that jumping on underdogs this week may be more problematic then it has been in Weeks 1 and 2, but this situation sets up perfectly for the Argos to put up a good showing and possibly win outright.

For one, there is that dreaded 'letdown' spot for the Redblacks here, and when you add in a division rival to the mix, that spot only gets magnified. Furthermore, after a dominant Week 1 performance that saw a huge (and incorrect) over-adjustment on the Argos line in Week 2, we get another over-adjustment in Week 3, but this time working in Toronto's favor. QB Ricky Ray has been throwing the ball all over the field through two games and Ottawa's defence hasn't been good stopping the pass yet. Taking out the defending champs would be another great feather in the cap of the Argos this year and I expect that's what we will see.

After a sub-par 1-2 record with CFL free picks in Week 1, Week 2's free picks were a little better at 2-1. Thinking Calgary and Ottawa would play some defence was a mistake, but both BC and Montreal were part of the great season for underdogs this year and cashed rather easily. Hopefully Week 3 continues to bring positive results to help build your bankroll up at one of the phenomenal CFL betting sportsbooks listed below.
