CFL 2021 Week 15 Picks: Playoff Implications Abound

We are into Week 15 of the 2021 CFL season. With just two weeks left, there is still one playoff spot left and several playoff seedings to be fought over. Expect a fun penultimate week as we preview whether any team stands a chance against the runaway Grey Cup favourites, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

A quick glimpse at the 2021 Grey Cup odds reveals the obvious: the Winnipeg Blue Bombers are unchallenged as the betting favourites to repeat as champions. But this is the CFL. The unexpected happens here and underdogs can rule. So find plenty of other contenders via the best sports betting sites below as we preview CFL Week 15 and give an update on the odds:

2021 Grey Cup Odds: Who Can Beat Winnipeg?

Winnipeg is by and large the best team in the CFL right now. In fact, the Blue Bombers have been playing like they are two tiers above everyone else hence their steep Grey Cup odds. But as we all know, the best CFL team does not always win the Grey Cup. You can ask Hamilton last season. So here we look at three others who may just upset the Bombers (odds via Sports Interaction (SIA)):

Hamilton (6.00). The Tiger-Cats lost their last two games against the Bombers, but this is still largely the same team that went 15-3 in 2019. Hamilton has been dealing with injuries for most of the season but still have the second-best defense and an explosive offense.

Toronto (7.00). This is the only team to have beaten Winnipeg though that feels like ages ago. The Argonauts have been the epitome of inconsistent but when they are clicking, they can beat any team in the CFL. This franchise has the best Grey Cup record and are “clutch”.

Calgary (10.00). No Grey Cup contender list is complete without the Stampeders. Dave Dickenson’s boys now find themselves in unfamiliar territory: as the underdogs heading to the playoffs. But Calgary is hot and has won four of their last five. Don’t count them out.

SBR’s Pick – Calgary (10.00). At 10-1, we like Calgary not only to upset Winnipeg but to go all the way. As far as the other contenders go, they have the best value odds.

CFL 2021 Week 15 Games

Five CFL teams have already qualified, leaving one playoff spot left and it will be decided between the Calgary Stampeders and BC Lions. But playoff seedings are still up in the air so watch these CFL Week 15 games intently as they may have a playoff atmosphere:

Hamilton Tiger-Cats (7-5) at Toronto Argonauts (8-4) – Fri, Nov. 12, 7:30 PM ET

  • Point Spread: Hamilton pk (1.91), Toronto pk (1.91)
  • Moneyline: N/A
  • Over/Under: Over 45.0 (1.91), Under 45.0 (1.91)

To the winner goes the top spot in the East Division. The Argos are 2-1 against the “Ticats” but two of these wins came by a single point. Hamilton has won three in a row and are averaging 32.3 points in this span. Toronto is 5-0 at home but all the stats point to Hamilton being the better team. SBR’s Pick – Hamilton pk (1.91).

Calgary Stampeders (6-6) at BC Lions (4-8) – Fri, Nov. 12, 10:30 PM ET

  • Point Spread: Calgary -2.5 (1.91), BC +2.5 -14.5 (1.91)
  • Moneyline: Calgary -130, BC +110
  • Over/Under: Over 45.5 (1.91), Under 45.5 (1.91)

The Lions need to win to extend their candidacy for the playoffs. If Calgary wins, that’s it. And recent history is all in on Calgary, having won eight of their last ten meetings against the Lions. Calgary should win, but we like this to be a high-scoring game as the Lions are allowing 34 points in their last three games while Calgary is raring to explode. SBR’s Pick - Over 45.5 (1.91).

Winnipeg Blue Bombers (11-1) at Montreal Alouettes (6-6) – Sat, Nov. 13, 1:00 PM ET

  • Point Spread: Winnipeg -8.0 (1.91), Montreal +8.0 (1.91)
  • Moneyline: Winnipeg -440, Montreal +330
  • Over/Under: Over 44.5 (1.91), Under 44.5 (1.91)

After a bye, the Blue Bombers get back to business against the struggling Alouettes. Winnipeg may only be 3-2 against the spread (ATS) on the road, but the Als are atrocious at home at 1-4 (2-3 straight-up). Winnipeg’s fierce defense should make short work of Trevor Harris and Montreal. SBR’s Pick – Winnipeg -8.0 (1.91).

Edmonton Elks (2-9) at Saskatchewan Roughriders (8-4) – Sat, Nov. 13, 4:00 PM ET

  • Point Spread: Edmonton +10.5 (1.91), Saskatchewan -10.5 (1.91)
  • Moneyline: Edmonton +510, Saskatchewan -750
  • Over/Under: Over 44.0 (1.91), Under 44.0 (1.91)

Speaking of atrocities, the Elks have mailed it in and should be nothing more than a doormat for the Roughriders. But there is little value on the spread here. Edmonton is allowing 27 points a game but the Riders can only muster around 20. That may add to more than 44, but Edmonton may just end up with single digits in this one-sided affair. SBR’s Pick – Under 44.0
