    CFL Week 10 Predictions

    CFL Today's Games

Hopefully readers of this weekly CFL free picks article were able to find some way to at least break even with my two selections a week ago. That's because the 'over' 56 in the Ottawa/Hamilton game came up a point short but did close on 55 which may have been a push for some. The Calgary/BC game was a different story as getting in early there got us a win at +4.5 on BC with the Lions losing by four. It goes to show you just how important timing, and betting certain key numbers can really be in this industry.

So while Week 9 wasn't a profitable week on the whole, it wasn't a bad one and sometimes it's best just to pick up and move on to the next week. That's what I'm doing as we've got some interesting betting angles/scenarios to apply to a few of these games. Winnipeg kicks things off in Montreal on Thursday night, followed by Saskatchewan in Edmonton on Friday night, and a day-night doubleheader on Saturday with BC/Ottawa in the afternoon, and Toronto/Calgary at night.

Canadian Football League Picks Week 10

These four games this week are interesting on multiple levels, but having two of them in the +/- 1 range and the other two in the -5.5 or higher range means you've got to fully digest handicapping one game before you spread yourself over the others. To me, this week is all about situational handicapping, and you don't want to be applying those methods to bad numbers if it can be avoided. So let's get right to the plays:

The Alouettes have revenge on their minds tonight after they fell 41-40 to the Blue Bombers in Winnipeg a few weeks back. That game saw Winnipeg score two TD's in the final minute to storm back and win and Winnipeg hasn't lost since. Montreal has split a home-and-home with Toronto since then, but after losing badly last week, it was clear the Alouettes may have already been peaking ahead to this game.

Not only is this all about playing "ON" Montreal with the revenge angle, but it's also about fading a Winnipeg team that is coming off their biggest win of the year when they beat Edmonton. Technically it wasn't classified as an 'upset' givne Winnipeg was laying a point or two, but to be the first team in the CFL to beat an undefeated team that year this late into the season is almost an automatic fade for me the next time out. With Montreal having revenge on top of that, I expect Montreal to win this game by a TD.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders had last week off, but thanks to Winnipeg ending Edmonton's perfect season last week, the Roughriders can hopefully be the beneficiaries of another strong situational spot: Fade a team after suffering their first loss 6+ weeks into the season.

There is no question that on paper the Eskimos are the better team, but the injuries are really starting to mount for Edmonton these days, and having a deflated, banged up team coming off their first loss and hosting a well-rested team is not ideal. Saskatchewan's futility to score points away from home is a slight concern, but that extra prep week should prepare them enough to keep this one within a FG or less.

Calgary games have not been my best in terms of results this year, as the Stampeders look very similar to the team that dominated the CFL a year ago and came up just short in the Grey Cup. But this week's home game against Toronto is the definition of a sandwich spot for the Stampeders.

The Stampeders are coming off a very tough 21-17 win in BC a week ago to push their record to 6-1. They now host a Toronto team who's 4-5 SU on the year and just lost at home to this same Calgary team 41-24 a few weeks ago. Pretty much every team in the West knows they are a step ahead of any East team, and with one win over Toronto in their back pockets already, Calgary is primed to come into this one very flat.

Not only is a flat start (and ultimately flat game) very possible, the fact that Calgary's got a home-and-home series lined up with Edmonton on deck is another knock on Calgary ATS this week. This Toronto game is sandwiched between two very important (and tough) Western division contests and I just don't see how the Stampeders will put their best foot forward.

Toronto has the revenge angle on their side as well, and with Ricky Ray returning last week and having a tremendous day, giving him 10 + points here is by far too many.
