NHL Best Bets - March 9, 2017

Philadelphia @ Toronto NHL Preview

My Team's Next MatchToronto Maple Leafs

Toronto got out of their funk with that win over Detroit but that W also left plenty of room for improvement. The Leafs jumped out to an early 3-0 lead on the Wings, only to find themselves desperately trying to hold onto that lead for the final 19 minutes of the game. Holding leads is something Toronto has struggled with mightily this season and while they were able to hold off a weak Detroit team, things will be much tougher against the Flyers tonight.

Philadelphia comes into this game playing the better hockey at the moment as they've won three of their past four with the lone loss coming in OT. Like Toronto, the Flyers are doing everything they can to battle for one of those final playoff spots and a loss tonight would put them 4 points back of Toronto - who is currently 9th in the East - with about 15 games to play. Needless to say it's a big game for both sides, but more so for the Flyers, and with the Leafs struggling - 1-5 SU after a win and 1-7 SU after allowing two or fewer goals, Philadelphia is a very live underdog tonight.

PHILADELPHIA FLYERS ML (+125) BET NOW

Best NHL Bets Tonight | March 9, 2017

Thursday's always bring plenty of action in the NHL and tonight is no different. There are nine other games aside from the Philadelphia/Toronto contest and with most of them later on in the evening, bettors have a bit of extra time to break down their potential plays. Here are three bets all NHL bettors should strongly consider though.

  • Minnesota Wild ML (-120) - Minnesota is fighting for that #1 seed in the West while Tampa is one bad stretch away from packing it in for the year. With a shorter line like this for the Wild (they were -170 at home vs. Tampa a few weeks ago), take the better team.
  • New Jersey/Colorado Over 5 (-110) - The Devils were shutout in both games of a home-and-home with Columbus earlier this week and a trip to Colorado to face the league's worst defence should help the Devils snap out of their scoring funk. Colorado won't be shy about chipping in a few goals as well.
  • Washington Capitals ML (-115) - Washington is 13-3 SU in their last 16 vs. teams from the West, and 11-3 SU in their last 14 against another winning team. Throw in two days of rest and the Caps sporting 16-5 SU record in that situation and they should get the better of the Sharks tonight.
