85th MLB All Star Game: Mid-Summer Classic Drips With Drama

American League: MLB All-Star Game top chalk status

Having all but stopped watching the NFL, NHL and NBA mid-season parties, and while the merits of the MLB All-Star Game actually meaning something are debated, we love the fact that this contest does indeed have consequences. The American League squad, who may be playing for the Los Angeles Angels, Detroit Tigers, or Oakland Athletics to open the Fall Classic, have been posted as the favorites on Tuesday. Looking over the pitching staff they are up against – that is somewhat surprising. National League studs Adam Wainwright, Clayton Kershaw and Zack Greinke, are three of the reasons we are leaning towards the Senior Circuit here.

Derek Jeter follows Mariano Rivera into Mid-Summer Classic sunset

As was the case with New York Yankee great Mariano “The Sandman” Rivera saying goodbye to the baseball world during last year’s All-Star festivities, legendary pin-stripper Derek Jeter will be making his 14th and final All-Star appearance on Tuesday. Slotted in at his usually shortstop position it will be a fitting farewell to one of the classiest sports figures ever. Come seasons end, in addition to his five World Series rings, Jeter will leave having played in more contests, having the most at-bats plus more hits than any player in Yankee in history. Love or loathe the Bronx Bombers – one should respect Captain Clutch. That said, we don’t advise betting on The Captain to repeat his 2000 All-Star Game MVP Award – the one and only such honor of his career.
