AL East Betting Odds

As the home of the Blue Jays, Yankees and Red Sox, the AL East is definitely the most popular division among Canadian baseball fans. It is also home to the Orioles and the Tampa Bay Rays. Toronto and Boston have both done well lately, but their numbers combined don’t even come close to the Yankee’s number of AL championships. They also can’t come close to the Yankees’ World Series titles for that matter. This is a very deep division, and more often than not, the wild card winner in the playoff race will come from the East. [+]

It’s also home to fierce rivalries, which are always fun to watch. The Yankees-Sox rivalry is one of the most heated in all of professional sports. This makes AL East games fun to watch, and even more fun to bet on.

Best AL East Division Betting Tips

You’re going to love betting on the American League East. Simply put, there are so many games to choose from, you may not know where to start. The baseball season is over 160 games long, without pre-season or playoffs. That’s as long as the NBA and NHL season combined. So basically, the Blue Jays will play as many games as the Toronto Raptors and the Toronto Maple Leafs combined.

When you’re placing your bets, keep in mind that the first place team isn’t that much better than the last place team, statistically speaking. The first place team may win 60-70% of their games at the very most. Whereas the last place team will win anywhere from 30-40% of their games. The disparity is much wider in other sports. So upsets happen far more often in baseball, and the lines and odds reflect it.

Pitching is key in predicting the outcome of a game, or gauging the over-under. High powered hitters are great, but pitching is a far more reliable indicator of what’s going to happen in tonight’s game. So, always start with the pitching match-up when placing your bets.

Bettors also need to know home field often isn’t an advantage. In Baseball, the home team wins barely more than 50% of the time. Only the top tier teams have a notable improvement in their home field performance.
