St. Louis vs Detroit: NHL Playoff Contenders Meet in Motown
Detroit Red Wings: Streaky season continues in the Motor City
Following a bumpy 3-5-3 run to close out 2015, Detroit has ramped up their play as the Red Wings are 5-1-1 in the New Year. The Red Wings recent production is particularly impressive when one considers that Detroit posted a 5-1 record during a six-game road trip to open the 2016 portion of their schedule. Once a scoring juggernaut in the NHL – the Red Wings are more defensive minded these days as is evident by the combined 15-13 score during their seven games this month. Detroit sits 23rd overall with 111 goals scored and 11th with 116 goals against through 45 games.
St. Louis Blues: Battling hard in the very competitive Central Division playoff race
A look at the overall NHL standings reveals that teams from the Central Division occupy three of the top five positions. Chicago is second behind Washington; the Stars sit third but have fallen five points behind the Blackhawks while St. Louis is two points behind Dallas and tied with Los Angeles for fourth place with 61 points each. The Blues were 21-11-4 at the Christmas break and they have earned at least one point in nine of their last 13 games by posting a 6-4-3 record since December 26, 2015. St. Louis sits tenth in the league with 126 goals for and 17th with 123 goals allowed.
St. Louis vs Detroit NHL Game Day Decision: Dependable goaltenders square off as Brian Elliott (9-5-4 GAA 2.39) faces Petr Mrazek (16-8-4, GAA 2.10) in the netminding duel. With Jake Allen sidelined, Elliot is the Blues current starter and he is 4-1-0 while allowing eleven goals over his last five starts. Mrazek is making his sixth start in January and he has allowed just eight goals while posting a 5-0-1 record. This is the second and final meeting after Detroit won the first match 4-3 (OT) in St. Louis back in November. The Wings have won four straight over the Blues, by a 12-6 margin, and the last three games were all decided by one goal in overtime. Expecting another close contest - we are backing the Blues with a ten-unit wager on the SportsInteraction puck line price.
