Diamondbacks at Dodgers NL Division Series Predictions
2017 National League Division Series Betting
The NLDS that many were expecting has finally arrived after the Arizona Diamondbacks were able to survive a crazy Wildcard game on Wednesday night. There are plenty of baseball fans out there that wanted, and expected, the D-Backs and Dodgers to meet in the NLDS as NL West supremacy – and a trip to the NLCS – is on the line. These two teams know each other awfully well, so it will be all about who can execute the best over a five-game series.
2017 NLDS Betting Odds – To Win Series
Arizona Diamondbacks (+210) vs. L.A Dodgers (-250) - Odds taken from Bet365
The Dodgers dominated most of MLB for about the first 4.5 months of the season as they looked like they were on their way to a historically great season. But some major slip ups in August and early September derailed those thoughts, and had many questioning if this organization had what it takes to finally make it to the World Series. Those doubts are definitely still there, but if the Dodgers can resemble the team that they were from April until early August, we might as well get their championship rings ready now.
Arizona had a great bounce back season themselves as they led the Wildcard race for virtually the entire year. Scrabing by and being able to hold off the Rockies numerous comebacks in the Wildcard game was a great confidence boost for this team, and although they are heavy underdogs in this series, the fact that they know the Dodgers well, are comfortable against this team, and can play with a certain freedom being unburdened by expectation should help them. All the pressure is squarely on L.A’s shoulders in this series, and if Arizona can capitalize on the openings they get, a big upset might be in the making.
Who’s Got The Edge Overall?
Despite being heavy underdogs in this series, the Arizona Diamondbacks actually won the regular season series with L.A by an 11-8 score. They finished the year with six straight wins against the Dodgers to get that advantage as they really took advantage of the Dodgers during their struggles. In fact, during the last series they played this year, Arizona swept the Dodgers in L.A and outscored them 19-2 over the three-game set. If you’re a believer in recent form, head-to-head dominance, and a little luck, Arizona isn’t a bad team to back.
However, aside from some waivering confidence and the pressure to perform on the Dodgers side, the advantage overall has to go to L.A. They’ve got the best pitcher in baseball in Clayton Kershaw potentially starting two of the five games, and their lineup is loaded from top to bottom when they are going well. Closer Kenley Jensen has been phenomenal all year for L.A and with home field advantage and a more well-rounded team, L.A deserves to be laying -200 plus for the series.2017 NLDS Betting Pick: L.A Dodgers (-250)
As tempting as it is to take a shot with the Diamondbacks in this series, this appears to be another year where the Dodgers make it to the NLCS. All of L.A’s massive struggles in August feel like a distant memory to this team right now, and quite frankly those losses probably started to pile up because the Dodgers simply got bored. At the time they were still a month away from playoff baseball, they knew they had the division wrapped up, and some laziness, poor play, and bad habits crept into their overall game.
But now that October baseball is here, I expect this Dodgers team to step up to the task at hand and look like the team that won 90 of their first 130 or so games. The pressure that’s on them is a little concerning, but they blew out teams with such regularity this year that it’s tough to feel pressure when you are constantly up by three or four runs. It won’t be a sweep, but the Dodgers should win this in four games.
