2017 Stanley Cup Final Odds: Predators vs Penguins Game 5

2017 Stanley Cup Final Odds: Predators vs Penguins Game 5
The 2017 Stanley Cup Finals have become a Best-of-3 now that each side has held serve at home. Pittsburgh still has home ice advantage in the series despite some brutal performances in Nashville and will look to get back to their winning ways. Puck drop for Game 5 is at 8:05 pm EST on June 8th, 2017.

This has been a highly entertaining Stanley Cup Final to date, and right now it’s the Nashville Predators who hold all the momentum. Nashville outscored Pittsburgh 9-2 in Games 3 and 4 to knot this series back up, but the Preds still have to find a way to win at least one road game if they want to hoist Lord Stanley’s Mug. They’d love to do that tonight and have a shot at winning the Cup on home ice, but there aren’t many positive memories from their trips to Pittsburgh this year and that will have to change.

100% Bonus Up To $200
Predators  +1.5 (-220)  +135  o5.5 (+105)
Penguins  -1.5 (+180)  -160  u5.5 (-125)

At first glance these ML odds are a little puzzling. Pittsburgh had been in the -140 range for both Games 1 and 2 at home and it’s not like they did much of anything in Games 3 and 4 in Nashville to warrant a bit of a spike in price. Those prices alone tell me that we will likely see the bulk of the action come the Predators way by the time the puck drops for Game 5.

Regarding the total, nothing really has changed here as we continue to get 5.5 numbers posted. Total bettors have seen the results follow the flip-flop method with Games 1 and 3 going ‘over’ and Games 2 and 4 going ‘under,’ so it’s not surprising to see the ‘over’ tonight come down a touch at +105 as opposed to the +120ish we’ve seen in the first four games.

So with the oddsmakers inflating the Penguins price a touch given how the home team is a perfect 4-0 SU in this series, it’s really tough to get a handle on a side play for tonight’s action. There is no question that the winner of Game 5 will be in the driver’s seat for a championship and it’s tough to go against a team like Pittsburgh with their championship pedigree and on home ice in a spot like that. But -160 is too steep of a price to pay in that regard.

Nashville may have all the momentum, but G Pekka Rinne has been like Jekyll and Hyde in this series depending on the venue. Nashville’s netminder was downright awful at times in Games 1 and 2 here in Pittsburgh, and while he rebounded nice at home in Games 3 and 4, I’m not so sure you can trust him tonight. That leaves the total and it’s where I’ll be investing my money tonight.

Predators at Penguins Predictions

As I mentioned earlier, we’ve seen the total flip-flop in every game so far. That’s not a be-all or end-all in terms of why to make a pick, but it doesn’t hurt to be on the right side of that coin tonight. Rinne has been awful in Pittsburgh in this series and the standing on his head he did in Nashville isn’t likely to continue for the remainder of this series.

Offensively, both teams won’t shy away from being ultra-aggressive when they get their opportunties to take control of this series, and with both goalies being rather shaky at times in this series, the only way you can really look tonight is to expect at least 6 goals. The home team has scored at least 4 goals in every game so far and it’s definitely not out of the realm of possibilities to see something like a 4-3 win by Pittsburgh tonight.

Backing Pittsburgh in Game 4 was our first misstep of the Stanley Cup Finals with these free betting selections and hopefully it’s the last as well. With only a few more games left in the 2016-17 NHL season, you still aren’t too late to get in on the action if you haven’t already.
