2017 NBA Finals Odds: Warriors vs Cavaliers Game 5
NBA Finals 2017 Game 5
Game five of the NBA Finals could very well be the last, as history does not benefit the Cleveland Cavaliers. Only nine teams in NBA history and five teams since 1980 have gone down 0-3 in a playoff series and gone on to force a game six.
In fact, the Golden State Warriors have a great chance to close out the Cavaliers on Monday night. No team has ever squandered a 3-0 lead in the NBA playoffs and only two teams in the NBA Finals history – the 1996 Seattle Supersonics and the 1951 Rochester Royals (now the Sacramento Kings) – have managed to win the next two games after being down 0-3.

|Golden State||-8.5 (-110)||-295||u231.5 (-110)|
As the series returns to California, to the confines of Oracle Arena, the odds once again shift to favour the Golden State Warriors. The Warriors enter game five as an early 8.5 point favourite and a -295 on the moneyline, though these lines could move as bets take place.
The over/under has hit a new high for the 2017 NBA Finals, creeping up three points from game four to 231.5. Last year Cleveland won game five in Golden State 112-97. Last year, Golden State was without the services of Draymond Green – after the NBA suspended him based on flagrant-foul accumulation. In game five in 2016, Cleveland also trailed the series 3-1, but was only a 5.5 point underdog, thanks in part to the suspension of Draymond Green.
Cavaliers at Warriors Predictions
With a spread of -8.5 for the Golden State Warriors, game five matches game two for the largest spread in the 2017 NBA Finals. Golden State covered the spread in game two, winning by 19 points but has since gone on to win by five and lose by 21.
This series has a tendency to be high scoring and not that close. Over the last 15 meetings between these two teams, single digits decided only four games. That means 73.3% of the time one team won by double digits or an average of 19.5 points.
Cleveland may be a long shot to win the series, they have a good chance at winning game five – or at least keeping it close. The key for the Cavaliers is not LeBron James, but Kyrie Irving. If Irving can outplay Steph Curry and attack the basket as he did in Game 4, the Irving and James can combine for enough offence to make game five close.
The biggest shocker for game five of the NBA Finals is the moneyline. Considering game two and game five have the same spread, the expectations would be that the moneyline for game five would be similar, if not the same as game two. That is far from the case. Game five sees the Warriors as a -295 on the moneyline. Game two saw the moneyline settle around -400 for Golden State after opening at -430 on Sports Interaction.
The shift in the moneyline makes Golden State an attractive bet. The two Finals game in Golden State were not close. Golden State won by an average of 20.5 points and never trailed after the first quarter. Cleveland showed significant improvements in game three and four, enough to make the 8.5 spread a risky bet. Instead, take the Warriors on the moneyline.
After two and a half years of surprisingly low scoring games between these two teams, games two, three and four of the 2017 NBA Finals have been offensive onslaughts. The average point total for the last three games is 243, which is up 41.9 points from the average total of 201.1 from the prior 20 matches. Cleveland set a Finals record in game four with 49 points in a quarter.
The over has moved up from game four to 231.5 points and judging by the last three games of this series; the over is the best pick. One of the biggest reasons to pick the over is both teams are breaking the century mark. Before game two of the 2017 NBA Finals, Golden State and Cleveland had both scored 100 points or more three times, over the 20 games they played from the start of 2015, with one of those games ending 108-100 in overtime. In each of the last three games, both teams scored over 100 points. It would seem as though defence has taken a backseat in this series, as both teams look to maximise possessions and shot attempts.
Sports Interaction still offers some NBA Future bets on this series. The best bet available would be Golden State at +400 to win in six games. The current line on Golden State in five is -333, which does not offer much of a payout. In fact, it is a better bet to take Golden State at -8.5 and hedge that bet with a smaller wager on Golden State in six.
Live betting on game five of the NBA Finals is available. Live betting is a popular option as it allows bettors to double up their potential winnings or try to offset early losses. Typically, around halftime, lines will begin to pop up for the second half. Bettors will find second half spreads, over/under and margin of victory bets. Live betting is a great way to make any game, even a blowout, exciting!
